A monitoring system for a power line structure includes a system for harvesting electrical energy from electric fields emanating from the power line. The monitoring system includes a weather resistant enclosure configured to be mounted near the power line. The electrical energy harvesting system includes an electric field antenna configured to receive electric fields emanating from the power line, an electrical energy harvesting circuit mounted within the enclosure and an earth ground connector configured to couple the harvesting circuit to an earth ground connection by direct connection or via a capacitive structure. An energy storage device is also electrically coupled to the harvesting circuit. The monitoring system further includes a sensor system electrically coupled to the harvesting system. The sensor system is configured to sense a condition and transmit corresponding condition data.

Monitoring systems and methods for power line structures and energy harvesting

Systems and methods which determine the position of an instrument internal to an object using an opto-mechanical sensor are shown. Embodiments utilize an opto-mechanical sensor system in which a mechanical instrument interface provides instrument movement information to a corresponding optical sensor system to determine instrument movement. Determinations of instrument movement preferably provide information regarding movement direction and speed. Such information, when used in combination with other information such as starting position or starting position offset, insertion angle or angle of attack, and/or insertion plane, is utilized by embodiments of the invention to determine the position of an instrument or portion thereof. Embodiments are adapted to accommodate different instrument configurations. Position information may be utilized in combination with an ultrasound image to display a visual representation of the instrument, or portion thereof, within a object being imaged.

Systems and methods for assisting with internal positioning of instruments

A medical device includes a control interface for operating the medical device in a hands-free mode. To control the medical device in a hands-free mode, the control interface includes multiple proximity sensors, each sensor associated with a level of adjustment. For example, a sensor located on a top portion of the medical device is used to increase the level of adjustment. And similarly, a sensor located on a bottom portion of the medical device is used to decrease the level of adjustment. The magnitude of the level of adjustment applied to a parameter of the medical device is controlled based at least in part on the length of time an object remains in proximity to a respective sensor. In one embodiment, the longer the object is held over a respective sensor the more adjustment the control interface will make to the parameter.

Systems and methods for hands free control of medical devices

Medical diagnostic ultrasound stereo imaging is provided. A medical diagnostic ultrasound system operable to scan a body with ultrasound is also operable to generate a three dimensional stereoscopic view of the body. The video processing unit and/or display device create the stereoscopic display.

A probing apparatus for probing a large pin count integrated circuit mounted on a circuit board is disclosed. The probing apparatus uses a mounting block and an interconnecting probe body to provide proper alignment of the probing apparatus to pins or pads of the integrated circuit. Since the probing apparatus can be connected while the integrated circuit to be tested is powered up and operational, the probing apparatus facilitates testing of the integrated circuit in real-time. A method for probing a large pin count integrated circuit is also disclosed.

Method and apparatus for probing large pin count integrated circuits

The timing signal output from a subject circuit is accurately skewed relative to a base clock signal period. A phase-locked loop ('PLL') and sample delay circuit are implemented with the subject circuit. The PLL receives the base clock signal and generates a local clock signal. The local clock signal is input to a sample delay circuit and the subject circuit. The sample circuit generates a delay approximating that of the subject circuit. The output of the sample delay circuit is fed back into the PLL. With the base clock as the PLL's reference signal and the delayed signal as the feedback signal, the local clock signal phase is forced to precede the base clock phase by the propagation delay of the sample delay circuit. In effect, the propagation delay is nulled out. For a PLL generating multiple output phases a zero phase goes to the sample delay circuit and an output with a phase corresponding to a desired skew goes to the subject circuit. Also, a class of logic devices is defined in which propagation delays are nulled out.

Method and apparatus for generating timing pulses accurately skewed

An ultrasonic Doppler flow (i.e. blood) imaging and/or measuring system capable of adaptively suppressing stationary or slowly-moving non-flow (i.e. tissue) signals having variable spectra from recovered ultrasonic echoes. In accordance with the invention, the tissue signals are suppressed using a tissue rejection filter having an attenuation characteristic which is controllably shaped based upon measured estimates of at least one spectral characteristic of the tissue signals to be removed, thereby maximizing the rejection of tissue movement signals and minimizing undesired attenuation of the blood flow signals. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the tissue rejection filter is embodied as a complex notch filter for filtering the baseband components of the recovered ultrasonic echoes, which filter has a variable notch shape and position as adaptively determined in response to changes in estimates of the spectral components of the tissue signal portion of the recovered echoes.

An apparatus and method for removing noise from a signal S(x). The noise is removed by filtering S(x) through a low pass filter having an adjustable pass band. A control processor analyzes S(x) prior to S(x) being input to the low pass filter and adjusts the pass band in response to an estimate of the SNR or rate of change of S(x) such that the pass band is reduced when the estimated SNR decreases and the pass band is increased when the SNR increases. In embodiments in which the control processor utilizes the rate of change of S(x) to control the pass band, the pass band is reduced when the rate of change of S(x) increases and increased when the rate of change of S(x) decreases. In embodiments used in ultrasound applications, the estimate of the SNR can be obtained from x, the power in S(x), or the variance in the measured velocity. The estimate of the rate of change of S(x) may be computed from an estimate of the correlation distance in S(x).

Method and apparatus for adaptive spatial image filtering

An ultrasonic Doppler flow (i.e. blood) imaging and/or measuring system capable of adaptively suppressing stationary or slowly-moving non-flow (i.e. blood) signals having variable spectra from the recovered ultrasonic echoes. In accordance with the invention, the tissue signals are suppressed using a tissue rejection filter arrangement having an attenuation characteristic which is controlled based upon measured estimates of at least one spectral characteristic of the tissue signals to be removed, thereby maximizing the rejection of tissue movement signals and minimizing undesired attenuation of the blood flow signals. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, data representative of the tissue signal movement, e.g., the spectral estimates of the tissue signals, are spatially averaged before being used to control the tissue rejection filter arrangement. In accordance with an alternative embodiment of the invention, the spatial averaging algorithm itself is adaptively changed, for example, in response to changes in the value of the power estimate of the tissue movement signals. In accordance with an even further alternative embodiment of the invention, a plurality of parallel beamforming channels are used for developing multiple sets of color flow beamlines substantially simultaneously with one another which scan an area, and velocity estimates from at least two of the sets which are representative of movement in adjacent portions in the scanned area are averaged for developing a control signal which adaptively controls the tissue rejection filter.
