A novel microporous carbon molecular sieve may be used as the basis for carbon adsorbent pellets that have discrete areas of carbonized binder and of carbonized precursor, macropores having an average pore diameter greater than or equal to 1 micrometer and a total macroporosity of at least 30 percent, both as measured by mercury porosimetry, and micropores that are capable of selectively admitting a C2-C3 alkene and excluding a C2-C3 alkane, and a total microporosity ranging from 10 percent to 30 percent. The pellets may be prepared by pyrolyzing a pellet structure comprising a carbon forming, non-melting binder and a non-porous gel type sulfonated polystyrene precursor at a temperature ranging from 500&#xb0; C. to 1000&#xb0; C., under an inert atmosphere and other conditions suitable to form the described pellets. The pellets are particularly useful in pressure swing and temperature swing adsorption processes to separate C2-C3 alkane/alkene mixtures.

The instant invention generally provides polymer microfiller composite comprising a molecularly self-assembling material and a microfiller, and a process of making and an article comprising the polymer microfiller composite.

Polymer microfiller composites

The instant invention generally provides an activated polymer composition containing an active agent (i.e., a chemically- or biologically-active agent), an activated fiber comprising the activated polymer composition, an activated-fiber composite comprising the activated fiber and a fiberweb support, processes of fabricating the activated fiber and activated-fiber composition, and an article comprising the activated polymer composition. The instant invention also generally provides a highly filled polymer filler composite comprising a molecularly self-assembling (MSA) material and a mineral filler or conductive filler dispersed in the MSA material, and a process of making and article comprising the highly filled polymer filler composite.

Active polymer compositions

The present invention provides porous body precursors and shaped porous bodies. Also included are catalysts and other end-use products based upon the shaped porous bodies and thus the porous body precursors. Finally, processes for making these are provided. The porous body precursors, comprise one or more topography-enhancing additives, i.e., additives that are capable of at least marginally enhancing one or more of surface area, aspect ratio, pore volume, median pore diameter, surface morphology, etc. Downstream products need not necessarily comprise the topography-enhancing additives in order to exhibit the benefits of their inclusion in the porous body precursors.
