Systems and methods are provided that employ a client side browser application and server side website applications that use optimization, prefetching, and caching of user interactions. These are used in combination with mouseover callouts to provide browsable search result refinements and additional product information. The systems and methods can be applied to site search applications and site-wide navigation and can be integrated with web analytics solutions to optimize the user interface and information provided based on real time end user browsing trends.

System and method for active browsing

A software module is presented that enables a user to efficiently switch between interacting with a content object in a first context and a second context. Information from the first context is used when switching to the second context and vice versa, thereby decreasing the overhead associated with switching contexts. In one embodiment, the content object is an HTML file, the first context is the file as it appears in a web browser, and the second context is the file in editable format. In one embodiment, when the web browser is directed to a 'context-switch URL,' a modified web server extracts information from the context-switch URL and switches the context from the first context to the second. In one embodiment, a person initiates a context-switch by pushing a button on the web browser. This causes a context-switch URL to be generated and directs the web browser to the context-switch URL.

A method and system for tracking an activity is described. A location tracking engine tracks a user's location, determines a direction by identifying a plurality of angles ahead of the current location on the path, and conveys navigation information to the user. A filter module receives a location update from a location tracking engine. The filter module performs at least one test on the location update. The filter module adds the location update to a queue of recently received location updates in response to passing the test. The stop detector module determines that the user is stopped and sets the current status to stopped and sets a time of a stop detection change to the later of the last time that of the stop detection change and a timestamp of the oldest location update in the queue if a previous status is moving.

The system interrogates a target website to build a database of products and services. The individual pages/products in the database of products and services are ranked based on analytics data. Responses to searches of the target website are ordered as list of records that reflects the analytics data, which improves the ordering of the list of records based on criteria such as web page popularity, product popularity, or conversion success rate. Further embodiments provide for the generation of appropriately ordered search engine feed data based on the ranked database of products and services for the target website as well as the generation of search engine sitemaps with an appropriate priority attribute based on the analytics data.

A system for spacing, storing and recognizing electronic representations of handwriting and printing comprises a central processing unit that couples with a display device, an input device, and a memory. The memory includes means for spacing ink stroke representations, means for recognizing outline elements, means for performing deferred recognition, means for highlighting drawing areas and means for storing and displaying ink stroke representations. These means operate together to provide a pen-based or graphics oriented computer system with improved performance and added functionality for manipulating the space between ink stroke representations. The preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises several novel methods that provide this functionality including: a method for managing space between ink stroke representations, a method for displaying drawing elements in a visually distinct manner, a method for recognizing bullets and dashes, a method for storing ink stroke representations, a method for displaying and printing ink stroke representations, and a method for performing deferred character or word recognition.

A note taking system that integrates word-processing functionality and computerized drawing functionality for processing ink strokes comprises novel methods that provide this functionality such as: a method for modeless operation of the note taking system that automatically switches between providing word-processing functionality and drawing functionality; a novel method for processing ink strokes as drawings, a unique method for processing ink strokes as writing, and other methods for parsing the ink strokes into words, lines, and paragraphs. The present invention also includes additional methods for manipulating figures such as a division between line and shape type figures, and a special handle performing either rotation or re-sizing.
