A system includes a steering-system motor, a first electronic control unit (ECU) and a second ECU each electrically connected to the steering-system motor, a communication line directly communicatively connecting the first ECU and the second ECU, and a gateway module communicatively connecting the first ECU to a controller area network (CAN) bus and communicatively connecting the second ECU to the CAN bus. The first ECU is programmed to, upon detecting a fault, transmit a fault code to the second ECU via the communication line and via the gateway module. The second ECU is programmed to, upon detecting a fault, transmit a fault code to the first ECU via the communication line and via the gateway module.

Steering system with multiple controllers

A system includes a computer programmed to specify a feedback torque to a steering wheel in a vehicle. The feedback torque is based on a steering torque applied to a steering rack and a deviation of the steering torque below a minimum torque. The computer is further programmed to actuate feedback torque to the steering wheel.

Steer-by-wire feedback torque

A computer includes a processor and a memory storing instructions executable by the processor to determine a learned clear vision offset based on a currently calculated clear vision offset and a previously stored clear vision offset, and steer a steer-by-wire system of a vehicle while correcting a steering angle by a lesser value of the learned clear vision offset and a maximum correctable offset.

Steering correction for steer-by-wire

A system for a vehicle includes first and second electronic control units (ECUs) each electrically connected to a steering-system motor, and a computer. The computer is programmed to instruct the first and second ECUs to each provide one-half of a value of a torque signal to the steering-system motor upon determining that both ECUs have a full performance capability.

A system includes a computer programmed to specify, while a vehicle is turning, a feedback torque based on a steering torque applied to a steering rack and a difference between a desired angle and an actual angle of vehicle steerable wheels. The computer is further programmed to actuate feedback torque to a vehicle steering wheel.

A vehicle parking brake system includes a power bridge. The power bridge is electrically connected to a primary power source and to a secondary power source. The power bridge has a first condition in which the primary power source is active in which the primary source is electrically connected to a parking brake actuator. The power bridge has a second condition in which the primary power source is not active in which the secondary power source is electrically connected to the parking brake.

Electric parking brake for autonomous vehicles

Methods and systems are disclosed for activating a vehicle ignition system. An example vehicle includes an ignition system, a plurality of sensors, and a processor. The processor a processor is configured to determine, based on data received from the sensors, (i) that a person occupies a driver's seat of the vehicle, (ii) that a key fob corresponding to the vehicle is present, and (iii) that an input has been received at a shifter of the vehicle. The processor is also configured to responsively activate the ignition system.

Vehicle ignition systems and methods

A steering wheel position control system for a vehicle comprises a controller for a vehicle. The controller includes a processor and a memory. The memory stores instructions executable by the processor. The controller is programmed to receive values from the sensors. The controller commands a pivot mechanism to bias a steering wheel to a stowed position based on values from the sensors. The controller also deploys an air bag based on values from the sensors, wherein the steering wheel is pivoted out of a space envelope of the deployed airbag.

A current state of a vehicle is identified. Vehicle path curvature limits are determined. A curvature performance profile to follow is determined based at least in part the vehicle path curvature limits. A direction of the vehicle is controlled based at least in part the curvature performance profile.

A computer is programmed to detect a request to steer a host vehicle. The computer is further programmed to determine a steering angle of the host vehicle. The computer is further programmed to send a notification to select one of a first non-autonomous steering mode and a second non-autonomous steering mode. The computer is further programmed to steer the host vehicle according to the selected mode and signals received from a user device.

Vehicle steering can be synchronized by first, turning the steering rack from lock-to-lock to determine a steering rack midpoint, second, turning the steering wheel from lock-to-lock to determine a steering wheel midpoint, third, synchronizing the steering rack with the steering wheel based on the steering rack midpoint and the steering wheel midpoint, and fourth, piloting a vehicle based on the synchronized steering rack and steering wheel; wherein the steering rack is mechanically decoupled from a steering wheel of the vehicle before turning the steering rack from lock-to-lock and before turning the steering wheel from lock-to-lock.

Synchronizing vehicle steering

A dashboard assembly for a vehicle includes a dashboard defining a receiving niche. The niche is alignable with a driver seat location, and is selectively fillable by each of a removable steering module and a removable filler module. The removable steering module includes a steering module base. A steering wheel support is fixed to the steering module base. A steering wheel is rotatably fixed to the steering wheel support. A steering wheel connector connects the steering wheel to a vehicle steering actuator. The removable filler module includes a filler module base.

Removable steering wheel and pedals for autonomous vehicle

A steering-wheel assembly includes an actuator, an actuator controller, a steering wheel, an attachment, and a data connector (referred to hereinafter as a first data connector). The actuator controller includes a processor and a memory and is communicatively coupled to the actuator. The steering wheel is rotatably coupled to the actuator. The attachment is coupled to the actuator. The first data connector is mounted on the attachment and in communication with the actuator controller. The actuator controller is programmed to instruct the actuator to rotate the steering wheel based on steering-wheel control data provided via the first data connector.
