An A liquid-crystal adaptive optics actuator comprising a two-dimensional array of pixels (), wherein each pixel () is connected to a control circuit by means of a control line signal path () that comprises an electrical interconnection () and a meandering resistor (), each resistor having a resistance value selected to equalize the RC time constant of each control line signal path associated to each pixel. Each control line is thus capable of carrying one or more control signals and the control line signal path is configured such that all the pixels respond to the control signals with a uniform response time.

Described herein are structures and techniques for providing an LC cell having a hermetically sealed cover disposed over a fill hole provided in a superstrate. The superstrate and cover have adhesion layers disposed thereon. Solder is disposed or otherwise provided around the fill hole (e.g. either on the cover or the superstrate or as a separate piece). The cover is then disposed over the fill hole and the solder is reflowed to form the hermetic seal over the fill hole.

A method for forming an RuOx electrode comprising depositing a TiW layer on an RuOx layer, forming a photo-resist mask on the TiW layer, in order to mask the TiW layer into a masked TiW layer, etching the masked TiW layer with a CF4 plasma, a TiW mask being formed on the RuOx layer, the CF4 plasma is not etching the RuOx and vaporizing unmasked RuOx portion of the RuOx layer with an oxygen plasma, the masked RuOx layer being formed into an RuOx electrode.

Method for forming an RuOx electrode and structure

An interceptor missile including an infrared radiation detection subsystem and a window assembly in the hull of the missile optically coupled to the infrared radiation detection subsystem. The window assembly includes an inner window, an outer window, and a support subsystem between the inner and the outer windows defining a plurality of infrared transparent fluid flow cooling channels between the inner and outer windows. A source of fluid coupled to the cooling channels for cooling the outer window without adversely affecting the optical properties of either window.

A piezoelectric fluid control valve (10) and fluid control method using a polymorph (48) with a characteristic that as a potential difference is applied thereto, the polymorph is deflected. The valve includes a supply port (14) for introducing fluid and a chamber (16) defined within the valve body. An outlet port (18) is in fluid communication with the chamber and a device controlled thereby, such as an anti-lock brake system. A relief port (78) returns fluid to a source thereof. Upper and lower metering elements (100, 116) are supported within the chamber. A cantilevered spring valve (128, 130) is positionable within metering orifices defined within the metering elements (100, 110). The polymorph is positioned between and in operative communication therewith. An electrical circuit (56) is connected to the polymorph, the circuit providing the potential difference thereto, which is regulated in accordance with an input signal delivered to the circuit. An input signal generator (58) operates in response to a sensed condition such as brake pressure and wheel deceleration, the fluid flow in the outlet port being continuously modulated in response to the sensed condition.

Piezoelectric fluid control valve

A method of patterning a film of PZT material comprises the steps of providing a mask over a selected surface portion of the PZT material; and, plasma etching unmasked portions of the thin film material. The method includes the steps of: introducing a gas mixture of halogenated gases into a chamber; ionizing the gas mixture into a plasma in the chamber by imposition of an electric field across the introduced gaseous mixture, chemically reacting the ionized gaseous mixture, chemically reacting the unmasked portions of the lead zirconate titanate thin film material to selectively remove such exposed portion of the thin film material. The gas mixture is a mixture of a chloride and a compound of fluorine. Preferably the compound of fluorine is a halocarbon or fluorocarbon. In particular, the fluorocarbon is a trifluoromethane, CHF.sub.3, and the chloride is boron trichloride BCl.sub.3.

Method of manufacturing a ferroelectric device using a plasma etching

A precision voltage reference device having a forward biased and reverse biased silicon junctions arranged as a concentric circular annular monolithic structure is described. Selective hardening of the forward biased junction is provided to adjust carrier lifetime in said junction thereby providing a radiation hardened device. The selective hardening is provided by implanting non-dopant species to induce a predetermined amount of lattice damage at the forward biased junction. This arrangement permits both the forward biased junction and the reverse biased junction to be fabricated on a common substrate.
