A meta model may be provided as a global structure providing flexible or customizable options for a specific ontology designed by a system operator. A meta model may include generic structures, such as attributes, attribute categories, and attribute properties. A system operator may configure a set of specific attributes, attribute categories, and synthesis rules within the meta model to define a desired ontology, customizing the system to a specific purpose. A system can receive assertions about points of interest known to the system, and store information about attributes of points of interest based on the specified ontology.

A personal assistant operation is provided for teaching a personal assistant device names preferred by the user for sensor activated devices. For this purpose, a method includes the personal assistant device receiving a request from a user to activate a requested device which the user has identified with a requested name which is unrecognized by the personal assistant device, determining a most likely candidate device from a list of candidate devices to activate in response to the request, activating the determined most likely candidate device, and identifying and saving the requested name as the name of the most likely candidate device in response to receiving confirmation from the user that the determined most likely candidate device is the requested device.

A method and system are disclosed for manipulating a model, where that model represents some or all of a design. The design includes a multitude of design elements, the model includes a multitude of model elements, and each of the design elements is represented by a single model element. The method comprises the steps of generating a suite of documents from the model, each of the documents describing a view of the model; and displaying the documents to a user as a series of forms. The user provides information to the forms to change the documents, and changes to the documents result in both changes to the model and consistent changes across the suite of documents. Software change management (SCM) systems can be extended to uniformly handle artifacts which lack constraints typically imposed on managed items. In the solution, a data type associated with a SCM system can enable management of unmanaged artifacts. Unmanaged artifacts can include, but is not limited to, artifacts which lack can traditional change management constraints, managed artifacts not directly associated with the SCM, artifacts with different constraints than the SCM imposed constraints, and the like. In one embodiment, an unmanaged artifact can have different lifecycles, policies, and the like which can make it unsuitable for traditional management approaches by the SCM. The SCM can utilize the data type to manage unmanaged artifacts without requiring significant change in functionality of the SCM by permitting change management processes to be applied to the unmanaged artifacts.
