Systems, methods, and apparatuses relating to a user defined formatting instruction to configure multicast Benes network circuitry are described. In one embodiment, a processor includes a decoder to decode a single instruction into a decoded single instruction, the single instruction having fields that identify packed input data, packed control data, and a packed data destination; and an execution unit to execute the decoded single instruction to: send the packed control data to respective control inputs of a circuit that comprises an inverse butterfly circuit coupled in series to a butterfly circuit, wherein the inverse butterfly circuit comprises a first plurality of stages of multicast switches and the butterfly circuit comprises a second plurality of stages of multicast switches, read, once from storage separate from the circuit, each element of the packed input data as respective inputs of the circuit, route the packed input data through the circuit according to the packed control data, and store resultant packed data from the circuit into the packed data destination.

Maximum likelihood bit-stream generation and detection techniques are provided using the M-algorithm and Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filtering. The M-Algorithm is applied to a target input signal X to perform Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation on the target input signal X to produce a digital bit stream B, such that after filtering by an IIR filter, the produced digital stream Y produces an error signal satisfying one or more predefined requirements. The predefined requirements comprise, for example, a substantially minimum error. In an exemplary bit detection implementation, the target input signal X comprises an observed analog signal and the produced digital stream Y comprises a digitized output of a receive channel corresponding to a transmitted bit stream. In an exemplary bit stream generation implementation, the target input signal X comprises a desired transmit signal and the produced digital stream Y comprises an estimate of the desired transmit signal.

Direct digital synthesis of signals using maximum likelihood bit-stream encoding

Software Digital Front End (SoftDFE) signal processing techniques are provided. One or more digital front end (DFE) functions are performed on a signal in software by executing one or more specialized instructions on a processor to perform the one or more digital front end (DFE) functions on the signal, wherein the processor has an instruction set comprised of one or more of linear and non-linear instructions. A block of samples comprised of a plurality of data samples is optionally formed and the digital front end (DFE) functions are performed on the block of samples. The specialized instructions can include a vector convolution function, a complex exponential function, an xfunction, a vector compare instruction, a vector max( ) instruction, a vector multiplication instruction, a vector addition instruction, a vector sqrt( ) instruction, a vector 1/x instruction, and a user-defined non-linear instruction.

Software digital front end (SoftDFE) signal processing

An SSB transmitter includes a digital-to-digital converter generating first and second real signal components as a function of a complex input signal supplied to the transmitter, and a digital Hilbert transformation module coupled with the digital-to-digital converter and operative to generate first and second transformed signals as a function of the first and second real signal components. The transmitter further includes first and second bit-stream generators operative to generate first and second analog signals as a function of the first and second transformed signals, respectively. The transmitter includes first and second amplifiers. The first amplifier is operative to generate a first amplified signal as a function of the first analog signal. The second amplifier is operative to generate a second amplified signal as a function of the second analog signal. An analog hybrid coupler is connected with the first and second amplifiers and operative to perform an analog Hilbert transformation.
