Lubricants from mixed alpha-olefin feeds

This disclosure relates to a liquid syndiotactic polyalphaolefin, sPAO, comprising one or more Cto Cmonomers, said sPAO having: a) an rr triad content of 5 to 50% as measured byC NMR; b) an mr triad content of 25 to 60% as measured byC NMR, where the mr to mm triad ratio is at least 1.0; c) a pour point of Z&#xb0; C. or less, where Z=0.0648X&#x2212;51.2, where X=kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. as reported in centistokes (cSt); d) a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. of 100 cSt or more (alternatively 200 cSt or more); e) a ratio of mr triads to rr triad (as determined byC NMR) of less than 9; f) a ratio of vinylidene to 1,2-disubstituted olefins (as determined byH NMR) of less than 8; g) a viscosity index of 120 or more; and h) an Mn of 40,000 or less. This disclosure further relates to processes to make and use sPAOs, including those having any combination of characterics a) to h).

Process for producing novel synthetic basestocks

This invention discloses an improved process which employs mixed alpha-olefins as feed over activated metallocene catalyst systems to provide essentially random liquid polymers particularly useful in lubricant components or as functional fluids.

This invention relates to a polyalpha-olefin (and hydrogenated analogs thereof) comprising more than 50 mole % of one or more C5 to C24 alpha-olefin monomers where the polyalpha-olefin has: a) 40 mole % or more of mm triads, b) a Bromine number of Y or greater, where Y is equal to 89.92*(V)'&#xb0;5863, where V is the Kinematic Viscosity of the polyalpha-olefin measured at 100&#xb0; C. in cSt, and c) 1,2 disubstituted olefins present at 7 mole % or more, preferably having Z mole % or more of units represented by the formula: where j, k and m are each, independently, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, or 22, n is an integer from 1 to 350, and where Z=8.420*Log(V)&#x2212;4.048, where V is the kinematic viscosity of the polyalpha-olefin measured at 1000 C in cSt This invention also relates to process to produce such polyalpha-olefins. 

Polyalpha-olefin compositions and processes to produce the same

Isotactic polypropylene ethylene-propylene copolymer blends and in-line processes for producing. The blends may have between 1 and 50 wt % of isotactic polypropylene with a melt flow rate of between 0.5 and 20,000 g/10 min and a melting peak temperature of 145&#xb0; C. or higher, and wherein the difference between the DSC peak melting and the peak crystallization temperatures is less than or equal to 0.5333 times the melting peak temperature minus 41.333&#xb0; C., and between 50 and 99 wt % of ethylene-propylene copolymer including between 10 wt % and 20 wt % randomly distributed ethylene with a melt flow rate of between 0.5 and 20,000 g/10 min, wherein the copolymer is polymerized by a bulk homogeneous polymerization process, and wherein the total regio defects in the continuous propylene segments of the copolymer is between 40 and 150% greater than a copolymer of equivalent melt flow rate and wt % ethylene polymerized by a solution polymerization process.

Polypropylene ethylene-propylene copolymer blends and in-line process to produce them

This invention relates to processes for producing an isotactic propylene homopolymer having more than 15 and less than 100 regio defects (sum of 2,1-erythro and 2,1-threo insertions and 3,1-isomerizations) per 10,000 propylene units; a weight-averaged molecular weight of 35000 g/mol or more; a peak melting temperature of greater than 149&#xb0; C.; an mmmm pentad fraction of 0.85 or more; a heat of fusion of 80 J/g or more; and a peak melting temperature minus peak crystallization temperature (Tmp&#x2212;Tcp) of less than or equal to (0.907 times Tmp) minus 99.64 (Tmp&#x2212;Tcp&#x3c;(0.907&#xd7;Tmp)&#x2212;99.64), as measured in &#xb0; C. on the homopolymer having 0 wt % nucleating agent.

Super-solution homogeneous propylene polymerization and polypropylenes made therefrom

Isotactic polypropylene ethylene-propylene copolymer blends and in-line processes for producing them. The blends may have between 1 and 50 wt % of isotactic polypropylene with a melt flow rate of between 0.5 and 20,000 g/10 min and a melting peak temperature of 145&#xb0; C. or higher, and wherein the difference between the DSC peak melting and the peak crystallization temperatures is less than or equal to 0.5333 times the melting peak temperature minus 41.333&#xb0; C., and between 50 and 99 wt % of ethylene-propylene copolymer including between 10 wt % and 20 wt % randomly distributed ethylene with a melt flow rate of between 0.5 and 20,000 g/10 min, wherein the copolymer is polymerized by a bulk homogeneous polymerization process, and wherein the total regio defects in the continuous propylene segments of the copolymer is between 40 and 150% greater than a copolymer of equivalent melt flow rate and wt % ethylene polymerized by a solution polymerization process.

Green lubricant compositions

The present invention is directed to lubricating oils of improved antioxidancy comprising a base oil selected from the group consisting of mineral oils, synthetic oils and mixtures thereof containing an effective amount of one or more organometallic compound and/or coordination complex selected from the group consisting of (a) a metal or metal cation with more than one oxidation state, above the ground state, and two or more anions, (b) a metal or metal cation with more than one oxidation state above the ground state and one or more bidentate or tridentate ligands, (c) a metal or metal cation with more than one oxidation state above the ground slate, and one or more amines and one or more ligands, and (d) mixtures thereof, to a method for improving the antioxidancy of formulated lubricating oil compositions by the addition thereto of an effective amount of the aforementioned organometallic compound, and/or coordination complex, and to an additive concentrate containing the aforementioned organometallic compound and/or coordination complex.

Catalytic antioxidants

The present invention is directed to lubricating oils exhibiting improved resistance to oxidation and deposit/sludge formation comprising a lubricant base oil and an effective amount of a catalytic antioxidant comprising one or more polymetal organometallic compound, to a method for improving the antioxidancy and the resistance to deposit/sludge formation of formulated lubricating oil compositions by the addition thereto of an effective amount of the aforementioned polymetal organometallic compound, and to an additive concentrate containing the aforementioned polymetal organometallic compound.

This invention relates to processes to produce liquid poly-alpha-olefins (PAOs) having a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. of more than 20 cSt in the presence of a metallocene catalyst with a non-coordinating anion activator and hydrogen.

Process to produce high viscosity fluids

Provided are bulk homogeneous polymerization processes for producing ethylene propylene random copolymers. The process includes contacting in a reactor or in a series of reactors propylene monomer, ethylene comonomer with one or more catalyst systems and optional solvent (present at less than 40 wt %), wherein the reactor train is at a temperature of between 65&#xb0; C. and 180&#xb0; C. and at a pressure no lower than 10 MPa below the cloud point pressure of the polymerization system and less than 1500 MPa, and wherein the polymerization system for the reactor train is in its dense fluid state to form a polymer reactor effluent including a homogeneous fluid phase polymer-monomer mixture in the reactor train; and wherein the resultant copolymer product comprises between 10 wt % and 20 wt % randomly distributed ethylene and the concentration of total region defects in the continuous propylene segments of the random EP copolymer is between 40 and 150% greater than in a copolymer of equivalent melt flow rate and wt % ethylene polymerized by a solution polymerization process.
