A method of projected capacitance touch sensing on a display includes updating the display by applying a drive waveform to each pixel of the display over a plurality of frame periods to update a pixel state. The updating includes selecting each row of the display in turn and repeating a frame update to drive pixels with successive time slices of the drive waveforms. The method further includes sensing a signal from a projected capacitance touch sensing electrode of the display during a sensing interval to provide a touch sensing response; identifying when column drive levels of the drive waveforms for pixels of one selected row change by more than a threshold level between the selected row and a next selected row; and inhibiting the touch sensing responsive to the column drive row change signal indicating a greater than the threshold level change of the drive levels between the selected rows.

Touch-sensing systems

We describe power control techniques for an document reader with an electrophoretic display. In embodiments the document reader comprises a main processor to display information and at least one secondary processor to detect, say, a user input gesture; a battery to provide power to both processors; and a controllable switch coupled between said battery and said main processor and having a control line coupled to said secondary processor, to switch power from said battery to said main processor while said secondary processor is powered. In embodiments a power consumption measured in months is desired so that rather than put the main processor into a standby mode power to the main processor is switched off entirely but the system is arranged to be able to start-up quickly from this configuration.

We describe a method of displaying a document page with a predetermined size using a display device having edges defining lateral dimensions not substantially larger than said predetermined size and having a central re-writable display portion and a non-re-writable border, said document page comprising a central, foreground portion bearing one or both of text and graphics, a background having a background color and at least one margin having said background color, the method comprising: inputting page data defining a page for display; processing said page data to crop margins of said page such that, when displayed on said re-writable display portion, said non-re-writable border gives the appearance of said cropped margins, said processing generating cropped page data; and outputting said cropped page data for display on said re-writable display portion of said display.
