A system for capturing volatile fluids and agglomerations discharged from chemical and refrigerant systems during an overpressure situation includes an energy dissipation assembly that uses impact bars and irregular surfaces to decrease the energy of such discharges by breaking up the agglomerations, and one or more tanks for capturing constituents for reuse, safe venting to atmosphere, or disposal.

A single gas detector combines a dual cavity photo-acoustic gas sensor with a common microphone and common source. Electrical outputs from the microphone can be analyzed to determine an analyte gas concentration in the local region being monitored. Radiant energy from the common source can be directed into both cavities simultaneously. Alternately, the sensor can be used with two microphones to establish a concentration of each of two different gasses, or a gas and water vapor.

Photo-acoustic, multi-band, multi-cavity gas detection system

A gas sensor usable in harsh environments includes a multiple chamber radiant energy transmission path which extends between a multi-channel emitter and a multi-channel detector. Chamber length and gas selection are establishable using a movable element with an aperture. The element is located between the emitter and the detector on the transmission path. Radiant energy from the emitter is reflected between the emitter and the element, prior to passing through the element to impinge on the detector.

The actuation signals are preferably provided by a microcontroller ( ) that can be programmed with more than one algorithm for generating different types of actuation signals. Furthermore, a non-linear mechanical response can be linearized by generating a non-linear actuation signal to produce a non-linear media transfer which when combined with the non-linear mechanical response results in an overall linear response.
