An example voltage converter includes a transformer having a primary winding, a first secondary winding, and a second secondary winding; a first transistor connected between a first terminal of the first secondary winding and electrical ground, where the first transistor has a first drain; a second transistor connected between a second terminal of the second secondary winding and electrical ground, where the second transistor has a second drain; and a capacitor connectable along a current path to the transformer via at least one of the first transistor or the second transistor. A control system detects a first voltage at the first drain and a second voltage at the second drain, and generates pulse-width modulated control signals based at least on the first and second voltages to control operation of the first and second transistors to produce voltage at the primary winding based on a voltage across the capacitor.

Controlling operation of a voltage converter based on transistor drain voltages

An example voltage converter includes a transformer having a primary winding, a first secondary winding, and a second secondary winding; a first transistor connected between a first terminal of the first secondary winding and electrical ground; a second transistor connected between a second terminal of the second secondary winding and electrical ground; an inductor connected to a center tap of the transformer between the first secondary winding and the second secondary winding; and a capacitor that is connectable along a current path to the transformer that includes the inductor via at least one of the first transistor or the second transistor. A control system generates, based on characteristics of current through the inductor, pulse-width modulated control signals to control operation of the first transistor and the second transistor to produce voltage at the primary winding based on a voltage across the capacitor.

Controlling operation of a voltage converter based on inductor current

A controller for a power converter and method of operating the same. In one embodiment, the controller includes an inductor-inductor-capacitor ('LLC') controller configured to receive an error signal from an error amplifier to control a switching frequency of an LLC stage of the power converter to regulate an output voltage thereof. The controller also includes a power factor correction ('PFC') controller configured to control a bus voltage produced by a PFC stage of the power converter and provided to the LLC stage so that an average switching frequency thereof is substantially maintained at a desired switching frequency.
