Systems and methods are provided for performing site preparation work when building a single-axis tracker solar power plant. An installation and assembly machine is outfitted with a positioning system. At the time of installation, a reference laser is located at one end of an intended tracker row and is aligned positionally with an intended axis of rotation of the tracker (e.g., the tracker torque tube). The machine is moved to the first desired installation location based on the positioning information so that the laser beam impinges on a target on the machine. The distance between the laser and target is measured. A portion of the machine containing the target is moved with respect to the beam until the measured distance is equal to a predetermined distance. Once the correct distance is confirmed, the portion of the machine containing the target may be moved to confirm that the machine mast is oriented correctly in other axes including Y, Z and yaw.

A closed-loop feedback-control system for a screw anchor driving machine that uses a controller such as a programmable logic controller (PLC) and an array of sensors providing real-time data to control an automated screw anchor driving operation relying on a rotary driver, a crowd motor applying downforce to the rotary driver and a tool driver extending a tool through the rotary driver and screw anchor to drive screw anchors to a target depth. The tool driver is independently controllable to advance the tool at a different feed and speed than the rotary driver to respond to underground conditions encountered during driving.

In a machine for driving screw anchors and other foundation components, a desired embedment depth is calculated based on a minimum required embedment depth, work point height and length of available upper leg sections. Once calculated, the machine automatically drives the screw anchor to the depth so that one of the available upper leg lengths will fit between the driven screw anchor and apex truss hardware. If uplift is detected during driving, the machine will add additional embedment depth. In-situ validation of driven screw anchors may be performed after the embedment depth is reached.

The system also includes an orientation system configured to alter the orientation of one or more of the plurality of photovoltaic modules to provide a reduced output from the photovoltaic system, the reduced output less than the maximum output.

A method of manufacturing solar cells is disclosed. The method comprises depositing an etch-resistant dopant material on a silicon substrate, the etch-resistant dopant material comprising a dopant source, forming a cross-linked matrix in the etch-resistant dopant material using a non-thermal cure of the etch-resistant dopant material, and heating the silicon substrate and the etch-resistant dopant material to a temperature sufficient to cause the dopant source to diffuse into the silicon substrate.

A photovoltaic system includes multiple strings of solar panels and a device presenting a DC load to the strings of solar panels. Output currents of the strings of solar panels may be sensed and provided to a computer that generates current-voltage (IV) curves of the strings of solar panels. Output voltages of the string of solar panels may be sensed at the string or at the device presenting the DC load. The DC load may be varied. Output currents of the strings of solar panels responsive to the variation of the DC load are sensed to generate IV curves of the strings of solar panels. IV curves may be compared and analyzed to evaluate performance of and detect problems with a string of solar panels.

The invention is a wind resistant celestial tracking apparatus that uses gravitational forces acting on the moving elements of the structure to provide overturning resistance. A molded self curing compound, such as reinforced concrete, is used as the structural material that provides the mass, and thus the gravitational overturning resistance that reduces or eliminates the need for a massive ballasted or dug-in foundation. The combination of these features potentially lowers cost significantly over that of tracking apparatuses found in prior art. The invention is appropriate for use in any celestial tracking application with any number of axes of motion, but is particularly useful in two axis solar energy collection systems.

A method and apparatus for automatically calibrating the precise positioning of a wafer handling robot relative to a target structure is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a machine controller connected to robot having an end-effector with three degrees of movement. The controller has a memory with stored rough distance and geometrical data defining the general location of structural features of the target structure. The robot is programmed to move toward the target structure in a series of sequential movements, each movement culminating with the robot end-effector touching a preselected exterior feature of the target structure. Each touching of the end-effector is sensed and provides data for the controller which then calculates the precise location of the target structure. The data accumulated during a series of touching steps by the robot end-effector is utilized by the controller to provide a precise calibrated control program for future operation of the robot.

An electronic chassis is disclosed for supporting components such as a CRT device or flat panel display unit and adapted for installation through an opening in a cabinet without requiring access from within the cabinet to secure the chassis in place. The frontal end of the chassis has flange members on opposite sides which fit against the cabinet surface around its opening. One side of the chassis frontal end has a movable retainer means controlled by one or more drive screws that can be adjusted to grip one side of the cabinet opening. Continued actuation of the drive screws moves the chassis into locking contact with a fixed retainer means on the opposite side of the chassis. A bezel frame member attached to the frontal end of the chassis covers the drive screws but has access holes to facilitate their adjustment, and gaskets are provided on the bezel frame to prevent moisture from entering the chassis or the cabinet opening.
