A multilayer interlayer containing a specified ionomer skin layer and an acoustic damping intermediate layer, and laminate containing such interlayer are provided, wherein the laminate has a desirable combination of sound insulating, flexural strength and optical properties suitable for use in transportation and architectural end uses.

Provided herein is a translucent white polymer composition suitable for use as a safety glass interlayer. The translucent white polymer composition comprises a pigment and a polymeric resin that comprises an ionomer of an ethylene acid copolymer. Alumina (AlO) and alumina trihydrate (Al(OH); 'ATH') are preferred pigments. The translucent white polymer composition is useful in various molded articles. The translucent white polymer composition is particularly useful as an interlayer in glass laminates, including safety glass laminates and structural glass laminates. Further provided herein are methods of making the translucent white polymer composition, the articles and the glass laminates.

Translucent white polymer composition and its use in glass laminates and other articles

Provided herein is relatively thick ionomeric sheeting that can be taken up into a roll and supplied in continuous form. Also provided herein are methods of manufacturing rolls of relatively thick, continuous ionomeric sheeting. Further provided herein are methods of producing glass laminates, wherein the relatively thick ionomeric sheeting is not conditioned to reduce curvature prior to stacking the pre-press assembly. These continuous rolls eliminate costly cutting and stacking steps in ionomeric sheeting that is intended for use as interlayers in laminated structures, for example safety glass and photovoltaic cells.

A slurry containing microfiber and micropowders, and a process for making such a slurry, are provided. The slurry containing microfibers and micropowders is more stable and easier to process, and the micropowder is less likely to separate out of the slurry or agglomerate in comparison to a slurry containing only micropowder.

Polyester yarns whose polyester fibers are of simple oval peripheral cross-section of aspect ratio at least about 1.85:1 have shown better dye yield in fabrics than polyester staple fibers having lower aspect ratios. Such superior cross-sections for polyester staple fibers have also provided advantages in open-end spinning in providing yarns with fewer spinning failures than fibers of conventional round cross-section.

Polyester staple fibers of simple oval peripheral cross-section of aspect ratio at least about 1.85:1 provide advantages both in open-end spinning (to provide yarns with fewer spinning failures than such fibers of conventional round cross-section) and better dye yield in fabrics than polyester staple fibers having other oval cross-sections, especially those having lower aspect ratios.

Filaments of ethylene terephthalate polyester copolymers that contain a lithium salt of a glycollate of 5-sulfo-isophthalic acid provide improvements over commercially-available basic-dyeable polyester filaments.

Sulfonate-containing polyesters dyeable with basic dyes

A process is provided for preparing basic-dyeable polyester polymer, and shaped articles therefrom, such as fibers, films and bottles, involving using the metal sulfonate salt of a glycollate of isophthalic acid as a polymerization catalyst in making ethylene terephthalate polyester copolymers. This reduces or even avoids the need to add a conventional polymerization catalyst, such as antimony trioxide, especially when making polyesters delustered with titanium dioxide.

The invention provides novel polyesters, fibers and films, nonwovens from the fibers and disposable products of the polyesters such as diapers. The products are degradable under the conditions typically existing in waste composting processes, have low ingredient costs and yet provide strength and toughness properties adequate for end uses such as in disposable diapers. The polyesters are based upon polyethylene terephthalate copolymerized with a non-aromatic diacid, such as adipic and glutaric acids, and containing alkali metal or alkaline earth metal sulfo groups, such as a metal 5-sulfoisophthalic acid derivative.

The invention provides novel polyesters, fibers and films, nonwovens from the fibers and disposable products of the polyesters such as diapers. C.
