A heat-sensitive negative-working lithographic printing plate precursor includes a support having a hydrophilic surface or which is provided with a hydrophilic layer and a coating provided thereon, the coating including an image-recording layer which includes hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer particles, a binder, and an infrared absorbing dye; wherein the hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer particles have an average particle diameter, measured by Photon Correlation Spectroscopy, of more than 10 nm and less than 40 nm; the amount of the IR-dye, without taking into account an optional counter ion, is more than 0.80 mg per m2 of the total surface of the thermoplastic polymer particles, measured by Hydrodynamic Fractionation; and the amount of hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer particles relative to the total weight of the ingredients of the imaging layer is at least 60%.

Negative working, heat sensitive lithographic printing plate precursor

A method for making a lithographic printing plate includes the steps of (i) providing a lithographic printing plate precursor including a coating, the coating including an image-recording layer which includes hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer particles, a binder, and an infrared absorbing dye, wherein the hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer particles have an average particle diameter, measured by Photon Correlation Spectroscopy, of more than 10 nm and less than 40 nm, and the amount of the IR-dye, without taking into account an optional counter ion, is more than 0.70 mg per mof the total surface of the thermoplastic polymer particles, measured by Hydrodynamic Fractionation, and the amount of hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer particles relative to the total weight of the ingredients of the imaging layer is at least 60%; (ii) exposing the precursor to infrared light; and (iii) developing the exposed precursor in an alkaline aqueous solution.

Method for making a lithographic printing plate

Highly efficient ZnS:Mn phosphors can be obtained by using triazole or diazole compounds during homogeneous precipitation in aqueous medium. Coated layers containing such phosphors can be incorporated in Thin Film Inorganic Light Emitting Diodes.

Perparation of improved ZnS:Mn phosphors

A conductive metal oxide based layer on a substrate is prepared by chemically reducing a metal salt in aqueous solution, coating the resulting aqueous metal dispersion after washing onto a substrate, preferably glass, and subjecting the coated layer to an oxidizing treatment, e.g. a heat step. In a preferred embodiment the metal oxide is tin oxide, or a mixture of tin oxide and another metal oxide.

Colloidal metal alloy compositions are prepared by chemical reduction of mixtures of at least two types of metal ions in an aqueous medium. Coating such a composition onto a support provides heat mode recording elements with improved sensitivity to laser radiation.

Method of imaging a heat mode recording element comprising highly dispersed metal alloys

An improved heat mode recording element based on a thin metal layer, preferably bismuth, is disclosed, characterized in that it contains hypophosphorous acid, or phosphorous acid, or a mixture of both.

Heat mode recording element based on a thin metal layer

A process was disclosed for the preparation of a heat mode recording element comprising a transparent support and a thin metal recording layer, characterized in that said thin metal layer was formed by the following steps: (1) preparing a solution containing metal ions and preferably a binder, (2) reducing said metal ions by a reducing agent, (3) coating said aqueous medium on said transparent support, optionally after removal of superfluous salts. The process disclosed is less complicated and more economic than previously known methods for applying a thin metal recording film.

Thin metal recording layer coated from aqueous medium

A process is disclosed for the preparation of a heat mode recording element comprising (A) laminating a layer pack (1) containing a temporary support, a release layer, a protective layer, an optional intermediate layer, a subbing layer and a thin metal layer, preferably a bismuth layer, to a layer pack (2) comprising a (thermo)adhesive layer and a permanent support, and (B) peeling off the temporary support and the release layer. In an alternative embodiment, when the protective layer contains a radiation-curable composition, the intermediate layer and the subbing layer can be omitted. A heat mode image is obtained by exposing information-wise a thus defined recording element by means of intense laser radiation, preferably produced by an infra-red laser.
