A cutting pick tool including a cemented carbide support body that mounts a diamond composite cutting tip. The support body includes a recess having a conical region that mounts a complementary conical shaped mount portion of the tip. The components are brazed together to provide a secure and robust cutting tip region.

Rock bolt

A drilling tool incorporating first and second ends, a shaft extending between the ends. The first end has a drill bit to penetrate rock. The drill bit and the shaft have complementary threads. The drill bit and the shaft comprise a relative rotation stop means that ensures that the drill bit remains loose during drilling in a first direction. The invention further relates to a self drilling rock bolt, a drill bit, drill shaft and shaft coupling, an anchoring device, and an end coupling per se.

A drill bit for attachment to an elongate drill rod, the drill bit including means for attachment to an end of the drill rod, and a leading end which defines a pair of diametrically opposed slots which open axially for receipt of a portion of a drill tip which projects axially from the slots. The drill tip being fixedly secured within each of the slots. Further, a drill rod or a self drilling roof bolt comprising the drill bit.

The present invention relates to a rock bolt comprising first and second ends, a shaft extending between the ends, and an anchoring device extending along a first part of the shaft adjacent the first end. The anchoring device comprises a mandrel, and at least one expansion element overlaying the mandrel. The expansion element is displaced radially outwardly on a predetermined relative movement between the mandrel and the expansion element. The expansion element is joined to a connector to form an anchor assembly. The anchor assembly is keyed to the mandrel. The anchor assembly comprises relative rotation actuator means active during rotation of the anchoring device. The invention further relates to an anchoring device per se.

A cutting pick comprising an elongate shank and a cutting tip which is mounted to one end of the shank to project from that end. At least two sleeve segments are provided and those segments are circumferentially fixed about the shank to form a substantially annular sleeve. The sleeve can be fixed about the shank in non-contacting relationship with the trailing end of the cutting tip. Moreover, the cutting tip can have a portion of maximum diameter which is of greater diameter than the inner diameter of the sleeve so that the portion of maximum diameter overlies the sleeve radially.

Drill tip

A self drilling rock bolt incorporating a shaft and an anchoring device. A first end of the bolt has a drill tip to penetrate rock and a second end is adapted to be connected to a drilling apparatus to allow rotation of, and thrust to, the bolt. A circulation passage is provided to allow fluid to be passed to the drill tip and in one form a central passage is formed in the shaft to form part of this circulation passage. The anchoring device is operative to retain the bolt when located in a drilled hole and comprises a mandrel having one or more inclined external surface mounted to, or integrally formed with, the shaft and at least one expansion element overlaying the mandrel. The expansion element(s) is displaced radially outwardly on a predetermined relative movement between the mandrel and the element.

Self drilling rock bolt

A cutting pick comprises an elongate shank and a cutting tip mounted to one end of the shank. The cutting tip has a leading end, a trailing end and a mounting portion for mounting to the shank. The tip has a shape such that it diverges outwardly in a direction from the leading end to the trailing end to a portion of maximum diameter. An annular sleeve is attached about the shank adjacent to and in non-contacting relationship with the trailing end of the cutting tip. The maximum diameter of the cutting tip is of greater diameter than the diameter of the inner diameter of the annular sleeve so that the portion of maximum diameter overlies the sleeve radially.

Drill bit

A cutting pick comprising a cutting tipformed such as from SiC-D and a metal pick body. The pick bodyhas a greater coefficient of thermal expansion than the cutting tip. The pick bodyincludes a generally cylindrical cavitywithin which is received a generally cylindrical anchor portion. The tipincludes a coatingbonded to the outer surface of the anchor portion. An annulusis left between the coatingand the cavitywithin which is a solder or braze material which bonds to each of the coatingand the cavity. The pick bodyemploys the difference in thermal expansion to exert pressure on the anchor portionto fix the tipto the pick body

Method for manufacturing a cutting pick and the resulting pick

A cutting pick includes an elongate shank, a cutting tip fixed to one end of the shank to project from that end and which is of a material that is harder than the material of the shank, and an annular sleeve which is attached about the shank adjacent the cutting tip. The sleeve is of a material (e.g., tungsten carbide) which is harder than the material of the shank and which has a lower propensity for incendive spark production during a cutting operation than the material of the shank. The sleeve includes a plurality of annular sleeve portions which are attached about the shank immediately adjacent to each other.
