Various embodiments described herein are directed toward alterable tokens. The alterable token may include a base including an RFID pattern. The base may include an electrical contact electrically coupled to the RFID pattern. The alterable token may include a rotatable body mounted to the base. The body may include first and second RFID tags. The body may include a first electrical contact coupled to the first RFID tag and a second electrical contact coupled to the second RFID tag. The body may be rotatable to a first and a second position. The RFID pattern may be electrically coupled to the first RFID tag when the first electrical contact contacts the electrical contact of the base in the first position. The RFID pattern may be electrically coupled to the second RFID tag when the second electrical contact contacts the electrical contact of the base in the second position.

Alterable token devices

The present invention provides a method of position sensing between a wireless mobile component carrying a mobile ultrasonic transducer and a fixed component carrying a plurality of fixed ultrasonic transducers in a predetermined spaced-apart relationship, the method comprising turning off all the transducers to establish a period of silence, activating one or more of the fixed transducers to transmit an ultrasonic signal, starting a plurality of timers corresponding to the respective plurality of fixed transducers generally simultaneously with transmitting the signal, receiving the signal at the mobile transducer, transmitting a signal from the mobile transducer responsive to the received signal, receiving the signal transmitted by the mobile transducer at each fixed transducer and stopping the respective timer generally at the time of reception of an edge of the received signal found within the first twenty received edges and preferably within the first ten received edges and more preferably at the first received rising edge, calculating the distance between the mobile transducer and each fixed transducer based on a predetermined constant representative of the speed of sound and the time taken for transit of the signal to each fixed transducer as measured by the respective timers, and performing trigonometric calculations using the calculated distances in order to determine the 3-dimensional position of the mobile component relative to the fixed component.

Wireless position sensing in three dimensions using ultrasound

A method of filtering noise in a three-dimensional position measurement system comprising receiving distance data representative of the respective distances between at least four spatially dispersed known points and an unknown point, performing triangulation calculations to determine at least two solutions to the three dimensional position of the unknown point relative to the known points, calculating a symmetrical bounding surface such as a sphere or cube which just encloses the said solutions, comparing the maximum dimension of the bounding surface with a first predetermined error threshold, and if the maximum dimension is less than the first error threshold, determining the center position of the bounding surface and outputting the center position as a noise-filtered position for the unknown point.

Methods and apparatus for filtering noise in a three-dimensional position measurement system

A position sensing system enabling dynamic adjustment of the sensing by dynamically adjusting amplifier gain or comparator thresholds in response to received signals. The system compares the time a signal takes to travel from a transmitter in a mobile component to a plurality of receivers in a fixed component and, adjusts the amplifier gain or comparator thresholds if the difference in times measured by the receivers is large or at least one receiver does not detect a signal.

Wireless position sensing in three dimensions

According to various embodiments, the invention provides a method for establishing communication between a computer program in a computing system and a controller held in a hand of a user, comprising: capturing image data in a capture area in front of a display, the capturing configured to identify a two-dimensional location of the controller in the capture area; and capturing one-way sound communication between a location proximate to the display and a location at the controller, the sound communication being used to compute a third-dimensional location of the controller in the capture area.
