This document describes systems and techniques to generate refined location estimates using ultra-wideband (UWB) communication links. Mobile devices, such as smartphones, include location sensors to estimate their location. The accuracy of location sensors is generally about 3 meters (or about 10 feet). More accurate location data would allow mobile devices to provide new and improved functionality. The described systems and techniques determine the distance between nearby mobile devices using UWB communication links. A mobile device can then use the distance between the mobile devices to determine their relative locations. By comparing the relative locations of the mobile devices with their location estimates, the mobile device can generate a refined location estimate.

Refined location estimates using ultra-wideband communication links

Techniques of identifying gestures include detecting and classifying inner-wrist muscle motions at a user's wrist using micron-resolution radar sensors. For example, a user of an AR system may wear a band around their wrist. When the user makes a gesture to manipulate a virtual object in the AR system as seen in a head-mounted display (HMD), muscles and ligaments in the user's wrist make small movements on the order of 1-3 mm. The band contains a small radar device that has a transmitter and a number of receivers (e.g., three) of electromagnetic (EM) radiation on a chip (e.g., a Soli chip. This radiation reflects off the wrist muscles and ligaments and is received by the receivers on the chip in the band. The received reflected signal, or signal samples, are then sent to processing circuitry for classification to identify the wrist movement as a gesture.

Systems and methods for identifying locations and controlling devices are provided. For example, a user may indicate a location by aiming at the location from multiple positions in a physical space. The user may also identify a controllable device to control by aiming at the device. Example systems and methods include determining a first position within a three-dimensional space, receiving a first directional input, and determining a first ray based on the first position and first directional input. Example systems and methods also include determining a second position within the three-dimensional space, receiving a second directional input, and determining a second ray based on the second position and second directional input. Example systems and methods may also include identifying a location within a three-dimensional space based on the first ray and the second ray.

Position-based location indication and device control

A content feed aggregator displays an ordered list of content items, including a selected item and a set of other items. The selected item is displayed in an expanded format while the other items are simultaneously displayed in a compact format. At least one respective item in compact format is displayed above the selected item and at least one respective item in compact format displayed below the selected item. In response to a user action for selecting a second item in the displayed list, the ordered list of content items is redisplayed with the second item displayed in the expanded format and the other items, including the first item, displayed in the compact format.

A system and method for serving content in a container document. The system comprises a container server that identifies one or more modules for use with a container document, receives a module specification from a remote server, and serves the container document including module data based on the module specification. The module specification comprises a content element and one or more optional preference elements that enable the container server to provide preferences to the module.

A work surface device has an upper member with a substantially planar top surface. A support is secured to the upper member for supporting the upper member on a support member with the planar top surface in a generally horizontal orientation. The support has a fastener or clamping device at its lower end for releasable engagement with a portion of the support member. A work board of shape and dimensions generally matching the shape and dimensions of the top surface may be placed on the top surface. The work board and upper member have aligned openings in which a receptacle may be seated or through which waste may be discarded into a container beneath the work surface. In one arrangement, the clamping device is secured to the upper rim of a container with the work surface spaced above the open upper end of the container.
