Techniques and equipment to facilitate controlling flow of a fluid along a flow passage. A flow control assembly is placed along a flow passage, and a bypass is routed past the flow control assembly. Flow along the bypass is controlled by a flow bypass mechanism which may be operated via pressure increase within the flow control assembly. A shear device restricts the opening of the bypass, and a dampening device acts to limit the shear device to exposure of forces from the pressure increase.

Methods and systems for facilitating actuation of downhole components by filtering actuation fluid and by preventing inoperability due to plugging. A well component is deployed downhole into a wellbore and operated via an actuator moved by a flow of fluid. A filter system is mounted in the flow of fluid to remove debris before the flow of fluid reaches the actuator. The filter system further comprises a pressure release member that opens when sufficient pressure builds up due to plugging of the filter system.

System and method for maintaining operability of a downhole actuator

Pump apparatus, systems and methods of making and using same are disclosed. One inventive system includes a coupling member, a first shaft and a second shaft, the coupling member connecting the first shaft with the second shaft, the coupling member defining a first axial chamber accepting the first shaft, and a second axial chamber accepting the second shaft, the chambers separated by a coupling plate, the chambers including torsional motion transmitting elements and axial motion securing elements in the first and second axial chambers for axially securing the shafts in the coupling member. Pump apparatus, systems and methods

A technique facilitates actuating a variety of components in a downhole environment. The technique utilizes displacement based activation of an atmospheric actuation chamber. Activation of the atmospheric actuation chamber may be initiated via a variety of mechanisms, including manipulation of a restraining device, translation of a seal, and/or destruction of a seal. The atmospheric actuation chamber is coupled in cooperation with the corresponding downhole component to enable selective activation of the downhole component.

To operate a device for use in a well, a counter mechanism is provided that is actuatable by pressure cycles to an active position that allows actuation of the device to a target state. A position retention mechanism is coupled to the counter mechanism to maintain the counter mechanism in the active position once the counter mechanism has been incremented by the pressure cycles to the active position.

A switching apparatus, system, and method configured to operate at least a dual line downhole tool via a single pressure source are provided. The switching apparatus may comprise a housing configured to contain a switching piston actuated by a fluid pressure source. The apparatus may further contain a switching valve comprising a first and second coupling passageway coupled to a switching valve housing comprising four ports. The switching piston may actuate the switching valve, alternating the coupling between a first configuration in which the four ports are communicatively coupled into two sets of ports and a second configuration in which the four ports are communicatively coupled into an alternate two sets of ports. The first configuration may configure the fluid pressure source to actuate the downhole tool in a first manner and the second configuration may configure the fluid pressure source to actuate the downhole tool in a second manner.

A kickover tool for placing and extracting a valve in a mandrel having a hydraulic piston, a kickover arm portion mechanically connected to the hydraulic piston, the kickover arm portion being actuated by application of pressure to the piston. Upon full stoke of the piston, pressure is relieved, and measurement of the pressure relief can be used to indicate proper placement in a side pocket mandrel.

A kickover tool is for placing and extracting a valve in a mandrel having a tool body extending in a longitudinal direction and having a hydraulic piston chamber therein. A hydraulic piston is located inside the hydraulic piston chamber. A kickover arm portion is mechanically connected to the hydraulic piston, the kickover arm portion comprising a kickover arm having a tool portion. The kickover arm has a non-kicked-over position where the kickover arm is substantially coaxial with the longitudinal direction and a kicked-over position where the kickover arm is substantially non-coaxial with the longitudinal direction. The kickover arm moves to the kicked-over position upon extension of the hydraulic piston.

A downhole tool has at least one diverter valve. The at least one diverter valve is used to reduce pressure in a wellbore caused by frictional resistance to fluid flow during a gravel pack operation. The increased pressure tends to be created as the beta wave of the gravel pack operation makes its way up the wellbore.

The present invention provides an apparatus for use in completing a subterranean zone penetrated by a wellbore. One aspect of the invention comprises a housing member with a longitudinal bore and a valve member located within the housing member that is movable between open and closed positions. A sliding sleeve having a longitudinal bore is disposed within the housing member and can move between an upper position and a lower position. Attached to the sliding sleeve is a seating element where the valve member can seat. When the sliding sleeve is in the lower position, the valve member is held in the open position and communication is established between the longitudinal bore of the housing above and below the valve member. When the sliding sleeve is in the upper position, the valve member is held in the closed position and communication between the longitudinal bore of the housing above and below the valve member is restricted.

A method and apparatus for performing a gravel pack operation includes a bypass mechanism (e.g., a bypass valve) that is actuatable between plural positions. The bypass mechanism is part of a tool assembly, with the bypass mechanism providing different flow paths through the tool assembly corresponding to the plural positions of the bypass mechanism. For example, if the bypass mechanism is in a first position, an elevated pressure is communicated from an annular region outside a tool string to a target wellbore section. On the other hand, if the bypass mechanism is in the second position, the elevated pressure is communicated from inside the tool string to the target wellbore section. In either position, an overbalance condition is maintained in the target wellbore section so that swabbing effects are reduced or eliminated due to movement of the tool assembly during a gravel pack operation.

Method and apparatus for gravel packing with a pressure maintenance tool

A system for permitting deployment of a polished bore receptacle, seal stack and production tubing in a single downhole trip into a wellbore. The system includes a polished bore receptacle, production tubing, a seal stack disposed about the production tubing, and a one trip seal latch that couples the production tubing to the polished bore receptacle. The seal latch includes an outer latch housing and an inner latch housing. The outer housing and inner housing are connected by a releasable coupling device. Thus, the polished bore receptacle can be moved downhole for latching to a packer without insertion of the seal stack into the interior of the polished bore receptacle. Upon latching of the polished bore receptacle to the packer, the coupler may be selectively released to permit insertion of the seal stack into the polished bore receptacle.
