An electrical connection between the backplane and the light-transmissive front electrode of an electrowetting device is provided by forming an aperture through the top front electrode coupled and a substrate coupled thereto and subsequently introducing a flowable, electrically-conductive material into the aperture. The flowable, electrically-conductive material provides an electrical contact between the light-transmissive electrically-conductive layer and the backplane.

Method of forming a top plane connection in an electro-optic device

An electrical connection between the backplane and the light-transmissive front electrode of an electro-optic display is provided by forming an aperture through the top front electrode coupled and a substrate coupled thereto and subsequently introducing a flowable, electrically-conductive material into the aperture. The flowable, electrically-conductive material provides an electrical contact between the light-transmissive electrically-conductive layer and the backplane.

Electro-optic display with measurement aperture

A process for producing a color electro-optic display uses an electro-optic sub-assembly comprising an electro-optic layer and a light-transmissive electrically-conductive layer. This sub-assembly is laminated to a backplane comprising a plurality of electrodes with the electro-optic layer disposed between the backplane and the electrically-conductive layer. A flowable material is placed over the sub-assembly and a color filter array is placed over the electrically-conductive layer and aligned with the electrodes of the backplane to form the color electro-optic display.

Electro-optic displays, and color filters for use therein

An electro-optic display (), or a sub-assembly of such a display, comprising a layer of electro-optic material () on a backplane () is assembled using at least one release sheet () or masking film having a resistivity not greater than about 10&#x3a9; square. The use of such a release sheet or masking film helps to avoid damage to transistors in the backplane during the assembly process.
