A design structure embodied in a machine-readable medium used in a design process provides a transmitter having a frequency response controllable in accordance with an operational parameter, and may include a storage operable to store operational parameters for controlling a frequency response of the transmitter under each of a plurality of corresponding operating conditions. A sensor can be used to detect an operating condition. In response to a change in the detected operating condition, a stored operational parameter corresponding to the detected operating condition can be used to control the frequency response of the transmitter.

Design structure for transmitter bandwidth optimization circuit

A method is provided for operating a transmitter integrated in a microelectronic element. In a calibration phase, a plurality of operational parameters are stored for controlling a frequency response of the transmitter under each of a plurality of corresponding operating conditions. Upon detecting an operating condition such as a temperature or power supply voltage level, the corresponding stored operational parameter is applied to the transmitter to control the frequency response.

Transmitter bandwidth optimization circuit

A decision feedback equalizer (DFE) and method include summer circuits configured to add a dynamic feedback tap to a received input to provide a sum and to add a speculative static tap to the sum. Sense amplifiers are configured to receive outputs of the summer circuits and evaluate the outputs of the summer circuits in accordance with a clock signal. A passgate multiplexer is configured to receive outputs from sense amplifiers wherein the multiplexers is clock-gated for isolation of subsequent ciruitry from the outputs of the sense amplifiers during a precharged period. A gating circuit is configured to perform gating of a selected signal output from a second circuit portion with a clock signal and to enable the isolation of the subsequent circuitry by the multiplexer during the precharge period. A regenerative buffer is coupled to the multiplexer to maintain an output of the multiplexer during the precharge period, to provide the select signal for a passgate multiplexer in the second circuit portion of the DFE and to drive the dynamic feedback tap on the first circuit portion of the DFE.

System and method for latency reduction in speculative decision feedback equalizers

A system for protecting a weak device operating in micro-electronic circuit and a design structure including the system embodied in a machine readable medium are disclosed. The system includes a high voltage power supply from high voltage overstressing prevents the weak device from failing during power-up, power-down, and when a low voltage power supply in a multiple power supply system is absent. The system further includes a low voltage power supply detection circuit configured to detect circuit power-up, circuit power-down, and when the low voltage power supply is absent, and generate a control signal upon detection. The system further includes a controlled current mirror device configured to provide a trickle current to maintain a conduction channel in the weak device in response to the control signal received from the low voltage power supply detection circuit during circuit power-up, circuit power-down, and when the low voltage power supply is absent.

Avoiding device stressing

A data receiver is provided which is operable to receive a signal controllably pre-distorted and transmitted by a transmitter, to generate information for adjusting the pre-distortion applied to the signal transmitted by the transmitter, and to transmit the information to the transmitter. The receiver is further operable to perform adaptive equalization to receive the signal transmitted by the transmitter.

High-speed multi-mode receiver

A signal detector and method to detect the presence or absence of an incoming differential signal. The method nullifies the DC off-set of the signal detector so that it can detect a signal within a very narrow window. The common mode levels of the signal and reference paths are used for calibration which is done automatically by use of an embedded algorithm residing in a digital block. The calibration range and resolution are predetermined to cope with the technology, modeling, design methodology and human error.

High Speed Multi-Mode Receiver with adaptive receiver equalization and controllable transmitter pre-distortion

A signal regenerator is provided which includes a common mode reference generator and a signal converter circuit. A common mode reference voltage level is generated which is variable in relation to at least one of a process used to fabricate the common mode reference generator, a level of a power supply voltage provided to the common mode reference generator or a temperature at which the common mode reference generator is operated. A signal converter circuit receives a differentially transmitted signal pair including a first input signal and a second input signal and outputs a single-ended output signal representing information carried by the differentially transmitted signal pair. Using a feedback signal from the common mode reference generator, a feedback control block controls a common mode level of the single-ended output signal in accordance with the common mode reference voltage level.

Method to avoid device stressing

Offset voltages in differential amplifiers are minimized by controlling compensation currents through the load impedances of the amplifiers. The currents are varied while sensing the polarity of the offset voltage. When the polarity changes, the current values are latched to keep the offset voltage at a minimum.

Differential amplifier offset voltage minimization independently from common mode voltage adjustment

In a first aspect, a method of testing an analog circuit is provided. The method includes (1) providing the analog circuit with a screening circuit adapted to cause the analog circuit to function like a logic gate during a test; and (2) applying digital signals to the analog circuit to test the analog circuit at a wafer level so as to detect a defect in one or more components of the analog circuit. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Methods and apparatus for testing an integrated circuit

Circuits and methods are provided for reducing the voltage stress applied to the drain to source conduction path of an FET and/or to reduce the stress to the gate oxide of an FET which may have a thin gate oxide. Thus, in a current mirror circuit disclosed herein, a first field effect transistor (FET) has a first gate and a first drain, in which the first drain is conductively connected to a current source for conducting a first current. The current mirror circuit also includes at least one second FET having a second gate conductively connected to the first gate, in which the second FET is operable to output a second current in fixed proportion to the first current. A switching element having a first conductive terminal is connected to the first gate and to the second gate, the second conductive terminal being connected to the first drain of the first FET. A switching network is operable to controllably switch the first and second FETs and the third switching element between a powered on state in which the first and second currents are conducted and the third switching element is conducting, and a powered off state in which the first and second currents are not conducted and the third switching element is nonconducting such that the same drain to source voltage stress is applied to both first and second FETs.

Analog MOS circuits having reduced voltage stress

Methods and structures are disclosed herein for programmably adjusting a peaking function of a differential signal receiver. The disclosed method includes inputting a pair of differential signals to a pair of input transistors coupled to conduct currents differentially between a pair of load impedances and a pair of tail transistors. The impedance of an adjustable shunt impedance element between the tail transistors of the receiver is varied by programming signal input, such that higher current is conducted over a peaking range of frequencies. In a disclosed structural embodiment, an integrated circuit is provided having a programmable peaking receiver. The programmable peaking receiver includes a pair of input transistors coupled to conduct differentially according to a pair of differential inputs applied to the pair of input transistors. Each of the input transistors produces an output in accordance with the differential input applied thereto. The programmable peaking receiver also includes a pair of tail transistors, coupled to draw current from the input transistors, and a programmably adjustable impedance element coupled between current-conducting nodes of the tail transistors. The impedance of the programmably adjustable impedance element is thereby adjustable in response to programming signal input to adjust a peaking function of the programmable peaking receiver.

Programmable peaking receiver and method

An optical transceiver with a transimpedance amplifier generates a dynamic common mode voltage of the peak-to-peak output current of the photodetector for use as an in-situ optical power meter. Peak-to-peak voltage signal are imposed on the common mode voltage so optical power measurements are obtained using preexisting electrical contacts. An nfet and a capacitor of the transimpedance amplifier smooths the peak-to-peak voltage to create the control signal for the common mode voltage. The common mode current is mirrored into a bank of pfets at the output stage to create a current sink. Depending upon the potential of the common mode voltage, more or less current will be drawn from the peak-to-peak voltage signals output from a final differential amplifier stage of the transimpedance amplifier.
