An apparatus for effecting an improved electrical connection structure between a component and a substrate in an installed orientation is employed where the component presents at least one electrical connection lead for establishing the electrical connection. The apparatus includes a mass of compressible dielectric material substantially fixedly situated between the component and the substrate in the installed orientation in substantially surrounding relation about the at least one electrical connection lead and substantially in register with the component.

Contamination prevention between two electrical components

The present invention provides for a self-aligned, panel mounted cord set, a method of manufacture therefor and an electronic equipment chassis employing the same. One end of the cord set is mounted in an aperture on a panel of an electronic equipment chassis (typically a back panel). The cord set self-aligns when mounted in the aperture to provide a mating connection with an electronic module housed in the chassis. In one embodiment of the invention the self-aligned panel mounted cord set has an elongated body with first and second opposing ends. Coupled to the first end is a power cord configured to mate with an electrical source, such as an AC wall outlet. Coupled to the second end is an electronic module connector configured to mate with the electronic module. About the elongated body is a flange with an alignment post thereon configured to align the elongated body with respect to the panel when positioned in the aperture.

Self-aligned, panel-mounted power cord set, method of manufacture therefor and an electronic equipment chassis employing the same

The present invention provides a heatsink for use with a heat-generating electrical component. The heatsink comprises a spine having opposing sides, cooling fins extending from the spine, and a dielectric layer adhered to at least one of the opposing sides. The dielectric layer has a thermal conductivity of at least about 1 W/m&deg; C. The heatsink may further comprise a metal layer adhered to the dielectric layer. The metal layer provides a surface to which an electric component can be adhered. The heatsink can further include a heat-generating component adhered to the metal layer. In another aspect, the heat-generating component is a surface-mount electrical component adhered to the metal layer with solder.

Heatsink with high thermal conductivity dielectric

Spring clips with nesting end portions are disclosed for use in securing heat generating electrical devices to a support surface, such as a heat sink. The nesting end portions of the clips depend downwardly below the main body portion to prevent contact with edges of electrical devices of varying height and width. Thickness and temper of the clips provide some flexibility so there is less variability in clamping force applied to the clamped devices by the clip in response to tightening of the attachment means and torquing of the fastening means becomes less critical.
