A methods and apparatuses for supporting device-to-device (D2D) communication in a wireless network is provided. According to embodiments, during a period where a D2D device 1 (D1) and a D2D device 2 (D2) are available for active D2D communications therebetween and when D2 identifies a need for a second communication with at least one of a base station or a different D2D device, the method includes transmitting, by D2, a D2D communication not available message (DNAM) to D1. The DNAM indicates that one or both of D1 and D2 are unavailable for active D2D communications therebetween. Upon receipt of the DNAM by D1, the method further includes transitioning, by D1, to a listening mode for receiving at least a D2D communication available message (DAM) from D2. The DAM indicates that D1 and D2 are available for active D2D communications therebetween.

Method and apparatus for managing device to device communication

Methods and apparatuses related to a two-step RACH procedure are provided. Channel conditions can be estimated based on a UE PRACH transmission rather than the subsequent PUSCH transmission in the first part of the two-step RACH. A variable length gap can be provided between the PRACH preamble transmission and the PUSCH transmission. Other solutions are also provided.

Method and apparatus for supporting two-step random access channel usage in a wireless communication system

The present invention provides a method and system for paging User Equipment (UE). According to embodiments, repetition of paging can help UEs to more reliably receive pages when they are operating in idle mode DRX, and in particular enhanced idle mode DRX (eDRX). The UE and the eNB are cooperatively configured to determine an eDRX time interval and a value for paging occasion (PO) repetition based on one or more parameters, such as UE mobility requirements; UE power requirements; latency requirements, and timing discrepancies between base stations. The base station transmits pages, and the UE monitors for said pages, with timing that is based on the eDRX time interval and the PO repetition values.

Method and system for paging user equipment

The present technology provides a computer-implemented method and system for performing frequency selective scheduling between a user equipment (UE) and a base station. The UE selects a sub-band within a predetermined system bandwidth based on observed radio conditions. The UE then communicates the selected sub-band to the base station. The base station then selects a LTE resource block having a frequency range falling within the sub-band. The selected resource block is then used for communication between the base station and the UE. The process may be repeated at a frequency related to the channel coherence.

Method and system for radio resource allocation

The present disclosure provides a grant free state for user equipment, for example a machine type communication (MTC) UE. There is provided a method for transitioning a state of a User Equipment (UE). The method includes determining, by the UE, if data is to be sent and transitioning, by the UE, to a grant free state when no data is to be sent, wherein transitioning to the grant free state includes receiving a grant free identifier (GF-ID). In some embodiments, the method further includes in accordance with a determination that an amount of data to be sent is below a threshold, transmitting, by the UE, the data together with the GF-ID. In addition, user equipment and base transceiver stations are provided each of which include a processor and memory having instructions stored thereon, which when executed by the processor configure the respective UE or BTS to perform the respective methods.

Methods and apparatuses for user equipment access to a wireless communication system

The present invention provides methods and apparatuses for implementation of cyclic prefix (CP) and demodulation reference signal (DMRS) in 2 sub-carrier pi/2 binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation in a communication system. DMRS symbols are interleaved with data-carrying symbols and configured such that they are alternatingly transmitted on different ones of the two sub-carriers. When a DMRS symbol is transmitted on one sub-carrier, the other sub-carrier may be unused. In implementing CP, phase rotations may be applied to modulation symbols, such that each concurrently transmitted pair of symbols is subjected to a same phase rotation. The phase rotation can be derived based on an average frequency of the two (e.g. adjacent) sub-carriers in use. The phase rotations can be updated recursively, and the update multiplied by a scaling factor.

Methods and apparatuses for phase rotation in 2 sub-carrier PI/2 binary phase shift keying communication

The present technology provides a method, apparatus and system for facilitating uplink communication from a user equipment (UE) to a base station in an LTE communication system. One or more frequency subcarriers within a predetermined LTE resource block are selected, covering less than the entire frequency range of the LTE resource block. The selected one or more frequency subcarriers are then used for communication from the UE to the base station.

A method and apparatus for paging terminals such as Low Cost User Equipment (UEs) in a wireless communication system such as the Long Term Evolution (LTE) system. Terminals determine their signal quality level and, based on the signal quality, determine a number of repetitions of a message to use for decoding of the message. The message corresponds to part of a procedure for paging the terminal. The terminal receives and combines the determined number of repetitions of the message in order to decode the message.

Method and apparatus for paging terminals in a wireless communication system

A method and system for facilitating operational adjustment of a User Equipment (UE) to a Long Term Evolution (LTE) cell serviced by an evolved NodeB (eNB). The eNB transmits a burst of multiple signals, each indicative of a Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS), and transmitted within a predetermined time frame. The UE, receives at least one signal of the burst, decodes the PSS based on the received at least one signal, and performs the operational adjustment based on the decoded PSS. The operational adjustment can include performing synchronization of the UE to the LTE cell and/or acquiring symbol timing of the LTE cell.

Method and system for providing and using enhanced primary synchronization signal for LTE

A method and apparatus for communicating system information and random access in a wireless communication system in an LTE system is provided. In some embodiments, a system information block (SIB) is transmitted in a configuration that is receivable by a limited-capability UE. The SIB may indicate a schedule of additional SIBs transmitted in the same configuration. The schedule may also be transmitted in another manner which is beyond capabilities of the UE to receive but within capabilities of full-capability UEs. Legacy SIB data may be spread between multiple new SIBs in this configuration. The configuration may include a limited transport block size and use of a limited number of physical resource blocks. Also provided is a Master Information Block (MIB) which indicates an extended System Frame Number count. Also provided is a means for communicating operating requirements from a UE by varying the timing and frequency of random access calls.

Method and apparatus for communicating system information and random access in a wireless system

A method and apparatus for communicating system information in a wireless communication system is provided. The method comprises generating and sending by a base station, for example an eNB, a system information block (SIB) which includes at least one correlation enhancement bit. This SIB is received by the terminal, for example a MTC UE, and this SIB is subsequently correlated with a previously received SIB. Further, upon the correlation of the SIB and the previously received SIB, a determination is made whether the SIB has in fact changed. Upon determining if the SIB has changed, the terminal selects the correct SIB which is to be used for configuring communication with the base station.

The wireless communication relationship is established at least in part via a portion of licensed radio spectrum. Proof of the authorization between the first device and the second device is communicated. The first device and the second device subsequently enter into an authorized wireless communication relationship.

Subscription and charging control for wireless communications between proximate devices

A method and apparatus are provided for abbreviating the blind decoding process performed by a UE, such as an LTE UE, on control channel data such as PDCCH data of PRB pairs of a set of PRB pairs transmitted concurrently within a subframe. In some embodiments, only a prioritized portion of the PDCCH data is decoded, thereby expediting blind decoding. In some embodiments, a reduced number of encoding options for the PDCCH data is used, and blind decoding is expedited by considering only such options as possibilities. When blind decoding of the PDCCH data is completed before the end of the subframe, this may be used to identify and discard corresponding PDSCH data which is irrelevant to the UE. The prioritized portion may be adjusted as needed to include the CSS so as not to miss certain critical data.
