A multiplier-accumulator includes a pre-adder, a multiplier, an accumulator, multiplexing logic, and control logic. The pre-adder is configured to sum a first input and a second input to produce a pre-sum output. The multiplier is configured to multiply a third input and the pre-sum output to produce a product output. The accumulator is configured to sum a pair of accumulator inputs to produce a sum output. The multiplexer is configured to select the pair of accumulator inputs from a plurality of multiplexer inputs, where the plurality of multiplexer inputs includes the product output and the sum output. The control logic is configured to control operation of the pre-adder, the accumulator, and the multiplexer logic. In an example, each of the first input, the second input, the third input, and the sum output is coupled to programmable interconnect of a programmable logic device.

Enhanced multiplier-accumulator logic for a programmable logic device

A storage server for efficiently retrieving data from a plurality of disks in response to user access requests. The server comprises a plurality of processors coupled to disjoint subsets of disks, and a custom non-blocking packet switch for routing data from the processors to users. By tightly coupling the processors to disks and employing an application-specific switch, congestion and disk scheduling bottlenecks are minimized. By making efficient use of bandwidth, the architecture is also capable of receiving real-time data streams from a remote source and distributing these data streams to requesting users. The architecture is particularly well suited to video-on-demand systems in which a video server stores a library of movies and users submit requests to view particular movies.

A rate generator for generating a plurality of different frequencies that represent video requests in a video on demand (VOD) system. The rate generator comprises a plurality of parallel groups, each group comprising a phase accumulator module having a plurality of phase accumulators, a phase increment model having a plurality of phase increment registers, and an adder, coupled to the phase accumulator module and the phase increment module. The adder sums the phase increment value from the phase from the phase increment module and the output of the phase accumulator module and provides the value back to the phase accumulator module. When the sum reaches a pre-determined value, the adder resets and generates a pulse at a frequency dependent on the phase increment and the sampling frequency. In addition, a method for deriving the rate generator architecture is also provided.

The method comprises sending a first file to a processing system via a first communications medium, converting the first file to a second file in a format native to the remote programmable logic device, and sending the second file in a format native to the remote programmable logic device to the remote programmable logic device via a second communications medium.

A method and apparatus of utilizing a plurality of independent fiber channel arbitrated loops for moving, replicating and storing video information on storage devices in an interactive video information system. A plurality of servers are each comprised of a plurality of server modules. Each server module comprises a plurality of fiber channel (FC) disk drives coupled by a local port to a first fiber channel arbitrated loop within each server module. The plurality of FC disk drives on each of the plurality of server modules are also coupled to a second FC loop, via a backup port on each FC disk drive. By utilizing two independent FC loops in this configuration, data may be sequentially transmitted from a first server module, across the backup FC loop, to a second server module.
