A fuel injector for an exhaust heater includes a cover and an air blast nozzle. The cover has a nozzle seat, a fuel inlet, and an air inlet, the nozzle seat arranged along a flow axis. The air blast nozzle is seated in the nozzle seat and has a unibody. The air blast nozzle unibody is in fluid communication with the fuel inlet and the air inlet arranged along the flow axis to port fuel and air into a combustion volume, e.g., to heat a stream of exhaust gas flowing between an engine and a catalytic reactor by combustion with fuel introduced through the fuel inlet and air introduced through the air inlet.

A tube joint includes a first member and a second member. The first member has a bore defining an inner diameter. The second member has a first outer surface defining a first outer diameter with two or more helical protrusions extending radially from the first outer diameter. The two or more helical protrusions collectively define a second outer diameter. The second outer diameter of the second member is larger than the inner diameter of the first member by an amount sufficient to center and retain the second member within the bore of the first member. Brazed tube joint assemblies and methods of making brazed tube joints are also described.

A method of manufacturing includes depositing a braze filler adjacent to a void between a first component and a second component thus holding the components in position before brazing. The first and second components are heated to melt and flow the braze filler into the void. A braze joint is formed between the first and second components by cooling the braze filler. Depositing the braze filler can include laser cladding the braze filler to the first and/or second components adjacent the void. The method also optionally includes welding the first and second components in position with the braze filler adjacent to the void. The braze filler may be deposited as a powder, cold spray, melted brazed filament, spherical ball or any other suitable form.

A head assembly for an ignition system includes a head block and a plurality of igniters seated in the head block. The head block has an issue aperture and defines an issue axis, and is configured and adapted for sealably coupling with an igniter combustion chamber. The igniters are arranged about the issue aperture and include respective ignition members arranged obliquely with respect to the issue axis for igniting fuel exiting the issue aperture irrespective to orientation of the ignition system.

Continuous ignition systems

A fuel nozzle includes an axial fuel circuit having a converging front surface with an axial fuel outlet formed therein, an air swirler surrounding the axial fuel circuit and having a converging front wall, a swirl chamber bounded by the converging front surface of the axial fuel circuit and the converging front wall of the air swirler, and an air cap surrounding the air swirler, such that an air circuit is defined between the air cap and the air swirler. A plurality of circumferentially disposed discrete jet passages extend through the converging front wall of the air swirler for directing atomizing air from the air circuit to the swirl chamber.

An ignition system includes a housing defining an interior and an exhaust outlet. The housing is configured and adapted to be mounted to a combustor to issue flame from the exhaust outlet into the combustor for ignition and flame stabilization within the combustor. A fuel injector is mounted to the housing with an outlet of the fuel injector directed to issue a spray of fuel into the interior of the housing. An igniter is mounted to the housing with an ignition point of the igniter proximate the outlet of the fuel injector for ignition within the interior of the housing.
