Disclosed are embodiments that communicate label information for documents between two enterprise computer systems. The two computer systems operate asynchronous from each other, and have limited available resources for use in buffering information passing between them. To that end, traditional API architectures that utilize method calls and return parameters do not operate well in this environment, as a first computer systems resources can become exhausted if a second computer system is able to generate data faster than the first computer system can consume it. The problem is exacerbated if an error is experienced when processing the consumed data, especially if there are no resources available to store the data until the error can be cleared. To solve this problem, the disclosed embodiments provide an ability for a consumer to request that data previously delivered to it be delivered again by the producer, in some embodiments, after a specified time delay.

Distributed virtual data tank for cross service quota management

The concepts relate to data handling, and more specifically to data handling scenarios where data is revised on one computer and stored on another computer. One example can obtain a set of blobs relating to revisions of a file. The example can determine a target size of datastore blobs. In an instance where a total size of the set of blobs is less than the target size, this example can aggregate the set of blobs into an individual datastore blob. Otherwise, the example can identify new or edited individual blobs of the set and aggregate the new or edited individual blobs into first datastore blobs. The example can also aggregate other individual blobs of the set into second datastore blobs.

Data handling

Systems and methods for restoring a file system to a point-in-time without relying on a backup. One system includes an electronic processor configured to automatically restore a file system to a specified point-in-time by (a) automatically restoring, from a recycle bin, items deleted from the file system after the point-in-time, (b) automatically deleting, from the file system, items created within the file system after the point-in-time, (c) automatically moving items moved within the file system after the point-in-time to a location within the file system associated with the point-in-time, (d) automatically deleting, from the file system, items copied within the file system after the point-in-time, (e) automatically renaming items renamed within the file system after the point-in-time to a name associated with the point-in-time, and (f) automatically restoring, from a version history, a version associated with the point-in-time for items with content modified after the point-in-time.

File system point-in-time restore using recycle bin and version history

A technology for efficiently filtering using a web site is disclosed. In one method approach, distinct filtering values based on a type of data selected from a web page associated with a web site are received without requiring retrieval of filtering values that are unrelated to the selected type of data. The distinct filtering values are displayed without requiring the web page to be entirely updated.

A server file replication technique is implemented with three local copies of a replicated file. First, a shadow file is a copy of the last known good version of the file on the server. Second, a local copy is the user's working copy. Whatever changes the user has made to the file are stored in the local copy. Third, a rollback file is a copy made of the local copy if the local copy changes (for example, when conflicts are resolved or the server version is copied to the local copy.) Different states exist, based on whether these copies contain differences from each other and from the server version, and based on the user's use of the document. These states guide what is done to maintain the local copies and whether conflict resolution is required.

Method for managing multiple file states for replicated files

A dynamically configurable list management system that supports list elements of multiple content types is presented. Each list element is associated with an element type via an element type identifier. The element type identifier uniquely identifies the element type to the list management system. Each property associated with each element type is included in the list. Each property is identified by a unique property identifier. When adding a list element of a new element type to an existing list that does not include any elements of the new element type, the list management system identifies every property associated with the new element type. For each property associated with the new element type, the list management system determines which properties are not already included in the list, and adds those properties that are not already including to the list.

Dynamically configurable lists for including multiple content types

A method for managing a first and second version of an electronic file is disclosed. In the method, first and second versions of an electronic file are recognized and a synchronization event is initiated. An application program interface accesses the first and second versions, compares information associated with each, generates a result and reports the result to the first software application. A second software application generates a user interface in accordance with a feature of the second software application, where the electronic file is associated with the second software application, and the user interface is displayed on a display device.

Method for managing file replication in applications

An email client invokes a DocObject-enabled mail note to display an email message and related features of the user interface. The mail note, which is a DocObject container, creates a DocObject server by invoking a DocObject-enabled word processor. The mail note provides a view port in which the word processor displays and edits the body of the email message. The word processor provides its formatting and editing features in the context of the mail note. OLE menu merging provides both email and word processing interoperability while editing the message. Programming interfaces between the mail note and the word processor allow the mail note to translate message data back and forth between the word processor's format and the format imposed by the email client. This ensures that messages created with the word processor can be read by other email clients.

System and method for in-place editing of an electronic mail message

A method and word processing system for automatically replacing one or more characters of text entered by a user in a word processing document with the corresponding plain text, formatted text, or other object. The user can select among a plurality of predefined autocorrect options in an Autocorrect dialog box that is displayed when the autocorrect function is selected from the menu or toolbar of the word processing system. These options include changing straight quotes to smart quotes, correcting words that begin with two initial upper case letters so that only the first letter is upper case, capitalizing the first letter of any sentence that is not capitalized, capitalizing the names of the days of the week if not already capitalized, and replacing text entered by the user with either plain text, formatted text, a graphic picture, or other type of object. Using the autocorrect function, the user can automatically correct commonly misspelled words, and automatically expand relatively short groups of characters to longer words, paragraphs, or graphic objects. Each character or string of characters that is to be replaced is associated with a 'definition' entered as plain text, formatted text, or as an object. The entry is added to an autocorrect list displayed to the user in the Autocorrect dialog box. Any entry in the autocorrect list can also be deleted or changed by the user. A second embodiment makes an intelligent decision concerning autocorrection of text, based upon the time interval between keyboard events.
