A sealing arrangement () is provided for sealing an interface between a casing main body () and a casing end cover (). A circumferential lip () on the casing main body () defines a first radially facing circumferential surface () and the end cover () has a circumferential lip () defining a second radially facing circumferential surface (). The sealing arrangement () includes a first circumferentially extending groove () formed in one of the first and second circumferential surfaces () and a sealing member () disposed within the first groove () in sealing contact with the one of said first groove () and in sealing contact with the other one of the first and second circumferentially extending surfaces ().

Sealing arrangement for semi-hermetic compressor

A compressor () has an unloading slide valve (). The valve has a valve element () having a range between a first condition and a second condition, the second condition being unloaded relative to the first condition. A piston () is in a cylinder () and mechanically coupled to the valve element. A control valve () is coupled to a headspace () of the cylinder to selectively expose the headspace to a flu source (), pressure of fluid in the headspace producing a force on the piston and valve element in a direction from the second condition toward the first condition. The compressor includes a pressure relief valve coupling () in the headspace to suction conditions to unload the compressor responsive to an overpressure.

A compressor has a housing assembly and at least one rotor held by the housing assembly for rotation about a rotor axis. The rotor has a first face and a first housing element has a second face in facing spaced-apart relation to the first face of the rotor. One or more spacer elements are positioned from the first housing element. The spacer elements are machined. A coating is applied over the first surface around the one or more spacer elements.

A refrigeration system has first and second evaporators which may be operated at first and second temperatures. Refrigerant from a lower temperature evaporator may be returned to a compressor suction port. Refrigerant from the higher temperature evaporator may be returned to an intermediate port.

A variable speed drive control system operates a variable speed drive to power a first load from a power source simultaneously powering a second load. An AC reactive power is monitored which may comprise or consist of an AC reactive power of the second load. Responsive to the monitored AC reactive power, the variable speed drive is controlled to counter the AC reactive power of the second load.

A compressor has a housing assembly and at least one rotor held by the housing assembly for rotation about a rotor axis. The rotor has a first face and a first housing element has a second face in facing spaced-apart relation to the first face of the rotor. A system for variable speed control of a plurality of compressors under variable load demand. The system includes a constant power source and a plurality of compressor motors having switches to connect with the constant power source. The system further includes a variable speed drive for driving any one of the plurality of compressor motors at variable speed, wherein each of the plurality of compressor motors includes a switch to connect with the variable speed drive. Each of the plurality of compressor motors is selectively electrically connected with the variable speed drive or the constant power source via the switches, for driving the each of the plurality of motors at one of variable or constant speed in response to compressor load demands.

Variable speed control of multiple compressors

The motor power consumption and motor winding temperature are monitored and, responsive thereto, the flow of refrigerant to the motor is controlled so as to control the temperature of the motor. The motor power consumption in the primary control input because it anticipates cooling requirements whereas the motor temperature indicates current cooling requirements. The cooling flow may be provided in an on-off manner or there may be a constant flow portion with an on-off parallel cooling flow path.

A backing ring has a reduced diameter portion surrounded by a spring which engages the backing ring and a stop to normally keep the stop and backing ring separated by a small distance while maintaining a desired bias on the bearing system which is engaged by the backing ring. Movement of the bearing is limited by the small distance which also limits flexure and therefore improves the fatigue life of the spring.

A normally closed valve is located downstream of the oil separator to insure that sufficient oil pressure builds up to lubricate the compressor. The valve is responsive to the differential pressure between discharge and economizer such that throttling takes place over a limited portion of the operating envelope.

In a system having low and high stage compressors with an oil separator downstream of each stage there can be a tendency for oil from the first stage to collect in the second stage. So, responsive to a low level of oil in the first stage oil system, oil is supplied from the second stage oil system to the first stage oil system.

Makeup oil system for first stage oil separation in booster system

In a compressor where an oil pump is driven by a crankshaft through a drive tang with oil passing through the drive tang. The bolts holding the drive tang in place tend to agitate the oil and create foam. To prevent foam from being drawn into the oil pump, the agitation is isolated by a sub-chamber defined in part by a spring retainer while oil is supplied via a tube extending through the sub-chamber.
