An apparatus for treating an interior surface of a workpiece comprising at least three nozzles ejecting treating material, with a first one and a second one ejecting the treating material substantially along first and second collinear lines. A third one of the nozzles ejects the treating material substantially along a third line substantially perpendicular to the first and second lines. The treating material ejected from the first one intersects with the treating material ejected from the second one at a first intersection area to radially deflect to form a first radial spray. The treating material ejected from the third one intersects with the first radial spray at a second intersection area to form a second radial spray of treating material. The interior surface of the workpiece adjacent the second intersection area is treated with the treating material of the second radial spray.

Apparatus and process for surface treating interior of a workpiece

A process and apparatus for surface treating boundary walls of an interior chamber formed in a workpiece. Nozzle members are inserted through access openings which communicate with opposite sides of the interior chamber and are positioned so that discharge openings of the nozzle members are disposed in closely adjacent and directly opposed relationship. High velocity streams of carrier fluid having entrained solid abrasive media therein are simultaneously discharged from the nozzle members so that the opposed streams directly violently impact and are deflected radially outwardly for impact against the surrounding boundary walls. The opposed nozzle members are preferably simultaneously synchronously moved lengthwise of the chamber to effect treating of the boundary walls.

Apparatus and process for surface treating interior of workpiece

A process and apparatus wherein a bulk quantity of parts is positioned in a channel-like treating chamber which is subjected to vibration to cause the flowable mass of parts to slowly undergo a corkscrew-like tumbling movement. One or more nozzle arrangements are positioned adjacent the treating chamber so that each nozzle has its discharge orifice position closely adjacent the flowing bulk mass in the chamber to effect high-velocity blasting of a selected region of the flowing mass. The nozzle emits a high-velocity spray which is defined by a carrier medium such as air having small abrasive particles or grit embedded therein. The abrasive spray contacts a concentrated area which has relatively small transverse and longitudinal extent over the flowing mass in the chamber. Due to its high-velocity discharge, the spray is effective in penetrating at least partway into the depth of the flowing mass to abrade the parts.
