A retention mechanism is provided for removably securing a smaller sized server or other rack-mounting computing asset into a larger sized server tray and rack, which are larger in width than the computing asset. The tray includes an edge configured to align and couple with the end of one or more clips, which may be removably installed on the tray. The clips include a bowed portion that contacts the surface of the computing asset when installed so as to apply a securing force on the computing asset and into the tray. The resulting friction between the server and the clip and between the server and the tray secures the server in place in the tray.

Server retention mechanism

A quick lock and release mechanism is provided for securing and releasing a server or other computing asset, including a server tray, from a server rack. The server is equipped with a quick release tab that is biased to fit into an opening in the server rack. To install the server in the rack, the server is secured to the rack by aligning and inserting the quick release tab into the opening. The server can then be removed from the rack by retracting the quick release tab from the opening. The server rack may include a plurality of shelves cut out from the rack to hold multiple servers in the rack.

An efficient and quick mechanism provides for retention and removal of hard drives on a computer chassis. A hard drive is placed in a hard drive housing, which includes one or more pins on the outside of the housing and a opening on a side of the housing. The pins on the hard drive housing align with and fit inside slots located on the chassis. The chassis also includes a spring plunger that inserts into the opening of the hard drive housing. The insertion of the spring plunger into the opening of the hard drive housing secures the housing to the chassis. The pins can be uncoupled from the slots and the spring plunger can be released from the opening to quickly remove the hard drive housing from the chassis.

An electrical assembly comprising a circuit board an electrical device, and a heat dissipation device. The electrical device is capable of emitting thermal energy and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The electrical device is secured to the circuit board. The heat dissipation device is secured to the circuit board and is in thermal communication with the electrical device. The heat dissipation device also includes a continuous EMI fence and a plurality of fins disposed in a matrix orientation. The fins are spaced from one another to allow for efficient heat dissipation and have a substantially square cross-sectional shape.

An electronic assembly includes a housing having a first portion and a remaining portion. The first portion includes a surface forming an outer wall of the housing. The electronic assembly also includes a component such as a CD ROM drive, for example, that may be mounted on the first portion of the housing. Further, at least one additional component, such as a motherboard, may be mounted on the remaining portion of the housing. The first portion of the housing is rotatably attached to the remaining portion of the housing. When the first portion of the housing is rotated into a closed position, the component and the additional component are positioned adjacent to each other. However, when the first portion of the housing is rotated into an open position, the component and the additional component are moved away from each other to allow access to the additional component.

A cable arm for a computer system includes a first leg, a second leg hingedly joined to the first leg, and an enclosure flange hingedly joined to the second leg. The cable arm further includes a rack flange, hingedly joined to the first leg, capable of being attached to a rack for holding the computer system, an enclosure bracket capable of being attached to the computer system and capable of being attached to the enclosure flange, and a hook, extending from the second leg, capable retaining a cable attached to the computer system.

A tower-type computer power supply is supported from the top of the chassis by tracks so that it may be slid horizontally outward of the back of the chassis. A motherboard is vertically supported between the power supply and a vertical side of the computer. Upon sliding the power supply outwardly to a position where it is still supported by the tracks, the power supply cables may be plugged into the motherboard. When the cables are so connected, they limit outward movement of the power supply. When the power supply is moved inward, the cables are concealed behind the power supply. Outward movement also provides access to sockets on the motherboard for installation or removal of DSIMMs (such as memory cards).

A computer housing which includes a chassis that has a first compartment and a second compartment. The first compartment includes a first electronic assembly and a first fan that creates a flow of air through the compartment to create a compartment pressure that is less than an ambient pressure. The second compartment contains a second electronic assembly and a second fan which produces a flow of air that creates pressure within the compartment that is greater than the ambient pressure. The housing also contains an inner wall which separates the first compartment from the second compartment to inhibit air flow between the compartments.

A 'tower'-type computer has a metal frame or chassis enclosed in an ornamental plastic housing. One side of the plastic housing with an attached metal liner is detachable for access to the interior of the chassis. The upper front corner of the chassis is provided with a metallic subframe. The front of the chassis is substantially open in front of this subframe and is formed with ventilation holes below the subframe. A detachable main bezel, divided into three vertically separated sections, covers the front of the chassis. The upper section of the main bezel is substantially open but is provided with ears so that fasteners can connect the ears to the front of the chassis. A peripheral bezel snaps onto this upper section of the main bezel and is provided with three openings which are covered with removable fillers. When a filler is removed, a computer peripheral may be inserted through the peripheral bezel into tracks in a bracket installed in the subframe.

The present invention is a computer housing with a low noise cooling system. The computer housing is comprised of two principal members, a cover and a base. Both a left surface and a right surface of the cover are perforated with vents to allowing the passage of air through the housing. The base additionally incorporates two air intake holes with a power source for the computer disposed over these air intake holes. The passage of air through the housing is facilitated through the use of three fans. These three fans are attached directly to the power source, and each of these fans operates at a different fan speed. The fan speeds are additionally adjusted in response to the outside ambient temperature. In operation, air enters the computer housing of the present invention through the vent array on the left surface of the cover, and the air intake holes in the base. The air is then channeled under the power source, dissipating the heat generated by the power source, blown across the components in the housing, and passed out of the housing through the vent array disposed on the left surface of the cover. The flow of air from one of the fans is advantageously deflected and channeled with a deflector.
