A network device of a communication network is configured to implement a switch fabric that includes collector-based cell reordering functionality. In one embodiment, the switch fabric comprises a plurality of distributors, a plurality of routing elements each having inputs coupled to respective outputs of multiple ones of the distributors, and a plurality of collectors each having inputs coupled to respective outputs of multiple ones of the routing elements. At least a given one of the collectors comprises a sorting circuit configured to reorder streams of cells received from respective ones of the routing elements into a single reordered stream of cells utilizing a merge sort.

Methods and apparatus are provided for determining equivalence and generalization of a network model. A method is provided for determining whether two networks are equivalent. A model of at least two networks is obtained, and then simplified using one or more normal form rules. A test is then performed to determine if the two simplified network models are equivalent (e.g., isomorphic). A first network M is said to be generalized by a second network N, M&#x2266;N, if every test that satisfies M also satisfies N. A first network M is said to be equivalent to a second network N, N&#x2261;M, if M generalizes N and N generalizes M.

Methods and apparatus for determining equivalence and generalization of a network model

Techniques are disclosed for optimizing the prediction of RF propagation. A three-dimensional environment, such as a building, is modeled as a plurality of two-dimensional cross-sectional areas including a plurality of surfaces. Each surface is associated with a reflection coefficient and a transmission coefficient. A reference transmitter location and a plurality of reference receiver locations are selected. For each reference receiver location, RF propagation paths are determined with respect to the reference transmitter location. The reference transmitter location and the reference receiver locations represent propagation path endpoints. A plurality of parallel planes are used to partition the three-dimensional environment into a plurality of intervals. The RF reflective surfaces and propagation paths within each interval are projected into a cross-sectional area. A plurality of line segments are positioned in the cross-sectional area to form a plurality of triangular areas.

Techniques for expeditiously predicting electromagnetic wave propagation

Techniques are disclosed for predicting RF propagation within a structure such as a building. A reference transmitter location and a plurality of reference receiver locations are selected. For each reference receiver location, RF propagation pathways are determined with respect to the reference transmitter location. The RF propagation pathways include a direct path joining the reference transmitter location to a given reference receiver location across a straight-line path, as well as one or more reflection paths joining the reference transmitter location to a given reference receiver location via reflections from one or more reflective surfaces. One or more propagation pathways may pass through an RF obstacle, such as, for example, a lossy dielectric material. Each reflective surface and RF obstacle is associated with a reflection coefficient and a transmission coefficient. These coefficients are computed for each object and surface from a multilayer dielectric model, maintaining angle and polarization dependencies. For each propagation pathway, a propagation component consisting of the propagation loss relative to free-space propagation is calculated as the product of the magnitude squared of the reflection and transmission coefficients. The local mean of received RF power at each of the reference receiver locations is calculated as the scalar sum of the powers of all the propagation pathway components reaching the specified location.
