A mattress includes a chamber defined by upper and lower panels and a peripheral border all constructed from synthetic polymeric/copolymeric plastic material and housing therein a spring unit. The spring unit includes a plurality of springs having upper ends connected to a peripheral border rod. The spring unit is devoid of a peripheral border rod at lower ends of the springs. Upper edges of the spring unit can be deformably gripped by the upper panel, the peripheral border and/or both to prevent 'swimming pool' effect.

The invention is directed to a mattress retainer system for adjustable beds which includes a mattress-retention bracket housed within a pocket of a mattress accessible in an upward direction through an opening along a bottom edge of the mattress. The pocket is formed by attaching a separate piece of material along a bottom edge of the mattress at one or both of opposite head/foot ends thereof and permitting an overlying downwardly projecting portion of a peripheral covering of the mattress to remain free thereby defining the opening into the pocket.

Retainer system for adjustable beds

A slat box spring/slat bed includes a polygonal frame spanned by a plurality of spaced substantially parallel concavo-convex slats of flexible material atop uppermost convex surfaces of which rests a piece of synthetic latex foam material. A soft cover is upholstered to the entirety of the latter except for an open bottom to impart a coil spring appearance to the slat box spring. The piece of synthetic latex foam material has a plurality of projections or corrugations which project into selected spaces between the plurality of slits to immobilize the latex foam material relative thereto.

A laminate for bedding, padding upholstering and like applications by feeding an indeterminate length of a first material along a predetermined first path of travel from a source of the first material to a downstream assembly area. Feeding an indeterminate length of second material along a predetermined second path of travel from a source of the second material to the downstream assembly area. Depositing a multiplicity of substantially yieldable cushioning materials upon an upper surface of one of the first and second indeterminate lengths of material during the feeding thereof between the respective sources and the assembly area. Thereafter, sandwiching the cushioning materials between the indeterminate lengths of first and second materials to form a laminate therefrom, and rolling the laminate into a roll. The cushioning materials are foam latex and/or down and the first and second lengths of material are polyester fiber material and/or convoluted foam.

Laminate for bedding, padding, upholstering and like applications

A method of manufacturing a laminate particularly adapted for bedding, padding upholstering and like applications by feeding an indeterminate length of a first material along a predetermined first path of travel from a source of the first material to a downstream assembly area. Feeding an indeterminate length of second material along a predetermined second path of travel from a source of the second material to the downstream assembly area. Depositing a multiplicity of substantially yieldable cushioning materials upon an upper surface of one of the first and second indeterminate lengths of material during the feeding thereof between the respective sources and the assembly area. Thereafter, sandwiching the cushioning materials between the indeterminate lengths of first and second materials to form a laminate therefrom, and rolling the laminate into a roll. The cushioning materials are foam latex and/or down and the first and second lengths of material are polyester fiber material and/or convoluted foam.

Machine for and a method of manufacturing a laminate particularly adapted for bedding, padding, and upholstering

A method of manufacturing mattresses is achieved by providing first and second layers of latex material having different indentation load deflection values. Each layer is then cut lengthwise along a longitudinal plane, preferably a medial plane to define first and second layer portions of the first and second layers each of an identical height. The layer portions are then cross united and adhesively bonded together thereby producing a mattress possessing a composite load deflection value dictated by the different indentation load deflection values of the starting layers. Preferably matching recesses are formed in the first and second layer portions of both layers. Medial recesses receive postural inserts of relatively high ILD values, whereas transverse recesses at headed foot sections are aligned to define voids at the foot and head sections of the mattress to provide head and foot relief.

Mattress and method of manufacture

A mattress includes at least in part a center convoluted foamed latex layer having opposite ends and opposite sides, a substantially flat lower surface and an opposite convoluted upper surface with the convoluted surface including a plurality of upwardly directed peaks and upwardly opening valleys. An upper layer of polymeric/copolymeric material spans the convoluted upper surface with a lower surface of the upper layer being substantially contiguous to the peaks and substantially closing the valleys. A frame of polymeric/copolymeric material substantially peripherally surrounds the convoluted layer and has an upper surface in underlying bonded relationship to the upper layer upper surface. A plurality of randomly sized pieces of foamed latex are housed within and substantially fill the valleys thereby progressively resisting compression of the peaks under the influence of different weights of persons supported upon the upper layer while imparting softness comparable to mattresses constructed entirely of solid unconvoluted foamed latex.
