Various methods are disclosed. For example, a method includes receiving, by a processor of a multi-function device at a location of an enterprise, a print job request from a mobile endpoint device, transmitting, by the processor, an authentication request to a print server, receiving, by the processor, an authentication confirmation from the print server that a user of the mobile endpoint device is associated with an enterprise where the MFD is located, and executing, by the processor, the print job.

Authentication for mobile print jobs on public multi-function devices

Methods and systems for printing on a print device from both authorized users and guest users are disclosed. The methods include configuring the print device to execute document processing jobs from both authorized users and guest users based on a rule set. The method also includes receiving a request to initiate a document processing session on the print device, initiating the kiosk mode session for executing paid document processing jobs by outputting a kiosk mode user interface that is configured to allow the guest user to submit requests for paid document processing jobs, receiving a request for executing a document processing job via the kiosk mode user interface, causing the print device to execute the document processing job, and causing a payment processing service associated with the guest user to render payment for executing the document processing job.

Methods and systems for enabling kiosk mode on a multifunction device

Methods and systems for printing on a print device from both authorized users and guest users are disclosed. The methods include receiving a request to initiate a document processing session on the print device, determining whether the requested document processing session is a kiosk mode session for executing a document processing job for a guest user or a staff mode session for executing a document processing job for an authorized user, initiating the kiosk mode session for executing paid document processing jobs in response to determining that the requested document processing session is the kiosk mode session, receiving a request for executing a first document processing job, determining a cost for executing the document processing job at the print device, receiving approval to execute the first document processing job at the print device for the determined cost from a guest user.

In systems and methods, a print server receives an original print job in an originated format that is associated with a user through a network. The print server identifies potentially used printers that can be utilized to print the original print job based on a current physical location of a mobile wireless device associated with the user. The print server converts the original print job from the originated format into printing formats used by the potentially used printers to generate print-ready print jobs. The print server is adapted to send the print-ready print jobs to the potentially used printers through the network when the print-ready print jobs are created. A selected printer of the potentially used printers receives an instruction to print the original print job and the selected printer prints a received one of the print-ready print jobs when the selected printer receives the instruction to print.

Use of wireless technology to enable Point of Sale (POS) vending for Multi-Function Devices (MFDs) is disclosed. A user can enable the MFD through the Internet by calling or accessing a centralized server. The user can access a previously existing account or establish a new account. Also, one time use of the MFD can be enabled by entering credit or debit card information. Previously existing accounts can be recognized by the caller's phone number or other mechanism. Individual MFDs can be recognized by Global Positioning System (GPS), an access number, or by entering the MFD identification number. The server can transfer billing information, MFD or account restrictions, and available balance to the user. The MFD prevents users from overdrawing their account or from running prohibited jobs. Charges incurred are transmitted back to the server for account maintenance.

Using mobile phones to provide access control and usage fee charges for MFDs

Employing an extended network interface and system architecture comprising operatively connecting a Foreign Device Interface (FDI) device and Multi-Function Device (MFD) via a network-based communication mechanism, configuring the FDI device as either a vend card device and/or accounting device, monitoring job-level accounting information or additional resource usage information from the MFD, synthesizing multiple information sources from at least one function performed by the MFD, and extending the functionality of said network interface and system architecture.

Extending the foreign device interface for MFDS using SNMP or other network protocols

Certain types of digital printers are susceptible to the deletion of image data toward the edge of print sheets of certain sizes. To avoid deletion of significant image information, an interpreter associated with a printer can reduce and translate each printed image slightly, to cause the printed image to be &ldquo;shrunk away&rdquo; from edge areas on the print sheet. A program associated with the interpreter reads the header of a job submitted thereto, and determines whether this image reduction is desirable, based on the identity or type of a source computer submitting the job.
