An apparatus and method are disclosed for providing visual and audible indications corresponding to the operational status of an electrosurgical generator so that the visual and audible indications can be readily observed and heard within an area normally associated with a working area of a typical operating room. Facilities are provided to mute the audible indication and to indicate that said audible indication has been muted. The indicators preferably include a visual and audible indication corresponding to the RF current delivered by the electrosurgical generator.

Current and status monitor

Blood from a patient is treated extracorporeally by any selected one of a plurality of predetermined treatments. Each of the treatments involves the flow of blood from the patient into a primary chamber of a filtration unit, past a semipermeable membrane located in the filtration unit which separates the primary chamber from a secondary chamber of the filtration unit, out the filtration unit and back to the patient. A replacement fluid is selectively and controllably added to the blood, as required for the selected treatment. A secondary fluid is controllably and selectively introduced into the secondary chamber of the filtration unit for controllably collecting material passing across the semipermeable membrane from the blood or for supplying material to pass across the semipermeable membrane into the blood as required for the selected treatment. Materials are removed from the secondary chamber and collected in accordance with the selected treatment. Upon selection of one of the plurality of extracorporeal blood treatments available, the rates of blood flow, fluid flow and fluid collection during the extracorporeal treatment are automatically determined, established and monitored in accordance with the selected treatment. An apparatus which automatically performs and monitors the selected treatment is also described.

Technique for extracorporeal treatment of blood

Blood from a patient is treated extracorporeally by any selected one of a plurality of predetermined treatments. Each of the treatments involves the flow of blood from the patient into a primary chamber of a filtration unit, past a semipermeable membrane located in the filtration unit which separates the primary chamber from a secondary chamber of the filtration unit, out the filtration unit and back to the patient. A secondary fluid is controllably and selectively introduced into the secondary chamber of the filtration unit for controllably collecting material passing across the semipermeable membrane from the blood or for supplying material to pass across the semipermeable membrane into the blood as required for the selected treatment. Materials are removed from the secondary chamber and collected in accordance with the selected treatment. Blood leaks into the secondary chamber are automatically detected and the rates of blood and fluid flow automatically adjusted in response thereto. An apparatus which automatically performs and monitors the selected treatment is also described.

A cleaning and/or disinfecting system for flushing water and chemical treatment liquids through the hydraulic circuitry of dialysate preparation and supply apparatus, the system employing, for each particular treatment liquid of a plurality of possible liquids, a keyhole adjacent to a chemical intake port and means to send electrical signals to an electrical controller indicating the presence of a key within a particular keyhole, whereby the particular treatment liquid connected to the port is flushed through the hydraulic circuitry of the apparatus at the proper flowrate and for the desired period of time.

Rinsing, cleaning and disinfecting dialysate preparation and supply

Measuring the flowrate of a liquid by directing the liquid to a vertically-positioned collection tube, periodically sensing the height of liquid in the tube, and averaging a plurality of data points to obtain an average flowrate value.

Measuring low flowrates

A system for supplying fluid for a fluid flow transfer device and achieving target ultrafiltration fluid losses by automatically, periodically monitoring the ultrafiltration rate and transmembrane pressure, computing the transmembrane pressure necessary to achieve the target fluid loss by the end of a session, and adjusting the transmembrane pressure to the computed value.

Automatic ultrafiltration control system

Liquid deaeration apparatus having a deaeration chamber, a positive displacement pump downstream of the deaeration chamber, a first flow restrictor upstream of the deaeration chamber, a low pressure sink connected to an air outlet of the deaeration chamber, and a second flow restrictor between the pump and the liquid outlet of the deaeration chamber to raise the pressure at the liquid outlet above that at the air outlet to cause volatilized gas to be removed via the air outlet of the deaeration chamber.
