In one general aspect, a microelectronics cooling device can include a microchannel heat exchanger within an enclosure that houses the device at a heat absorbing end and another heat exchanger which is optionally also a microchannel heat exchanger at a heat sink end outside the enclosure. One or more pipes flowably connect the two ends for transporting liquid working fluid to the heat absorber and vaporized working fluid to the heat sink. The heat pipes may also be used to transfer heat outside a room that contains the electronic devices.

Microelectronics cooling system

In one general aspect, a microchannel heat exchanger is disclosed. It includes a cover, a base, and thermally conductive sheets between the cover and the base that each define a series of side-by-side lanes aligned with a flow direction. The lanes each include aligned slots that define microchannel segments and are separated by cross ribs. The sheets are stacked between the base and cover so as to cause at least some of the ribs to be offset from each other and allow the microchannel segments in the same lane in adjacent sheets to communicate with each other along the flow direction to define a plurality of microchannels in the heat exchanger.

Aspects of the present invention relate to systems and processes for obtaining desired mercaptans or thiophenes from a feed stream containing a mixture of mercaptans, thiophenes and other components. In one aspect of the invention, a system for separating one or more components from a feed stream of mixed mercaptans includes one or more distillation columns in connection with a feed containing mercaptans, the distillation column having a rectification section, a stripping section, and a feed side section separated from a side draw section by a dividing wall that extends from the rectification section to the stripping section. The distillation column further being in connection with a condenser and a reboiler; and a distillate stream, a side drawn stream, and a bottoms stream.

A method for manufacturing 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene, including: reacting terephthaloyl chloride with diphenyl ether in the presence of a Lewis acid, so as to obtain a product mixture including 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene-Lewis acid complex, wherein the 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene-Lewis acid complex is, at least partly, in the form of a precipitate; carrying out a solid/liquid separation of the product mixture to obtain a cake comprising the 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene-Lewis acid complex precipitate; putting the cake in contact with a decomplexing solvent, wherein the decomplexing solvent is a protic solvent, so as to dissociate the 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene-Lewis acid complex into 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene; and, recovering the 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene. Also, a method for manufacturing a polyaryletherketone polymer starting from 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene manufactured by the above method.

Dissociation of 1,4-bis (4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene&#x2014;Lewis acid complex in a protic solvent

A method for treating a shear-thinning residue composition deriving from the synthesis of an aryl ether ketone, the residue composition including a liquid fraction and solid residues, the method including the steps of: passing said shear-thinning residue composition through a shear-generating evaporating device, between a rotating part and a stationary part; and recovering a condensed liquid fraction and separately recover concentrated solid residues.

Method for the recovery of compounds deriving from the synthesis of poly aryl ether ketone polymers

In one general aspect, a converging split-flow microchannel evaporator is disclosed. It includes a conductive contact surface to mate to a surface to be cooled, with a core mounted in thermal connection with the conductive surface that defines at least one layer of microchannels. Within the core, one inlet restriction restricts the flow into each microchannel in a first group of the microchannels, and another restricts the flow into each microchannel in a second group. A centrally located fluid outlet receives the flows from opposite ends of the microchannels in the two groups. A check valve can be provided to help ensure ready startup without reverse flow.

Microchannel evaporators with reduced pressure drop

A heat pipe can include a microchannel heat exchanger at the heat absorbing end and another heat exchanger which is optionally also a microchannel heat exchanger at the heat sink end, with one or more pipes flowably connecting the two ends for transporting liquid working fluid to the head absorber and vaporized working fluid to the heat sink. The heat pipes may be used to cool electronic devices with rejection of heat outside an enclosure, and optionally outside a room, containing the electronic devices. The heat pipes may be used to cool photovoltaic or solar collection devices with rejection of heat to ambient air at a distance removed from the photovoltaic devices. Heat pipe systems are disclosed wherein the working fluid is a hydrofluorocarbon or a mono-chlorinated hydrofluoroalkene having a normal boiling point in a range from 10&#xb0; C. to 80&#xb0; C.

Improvement in separating lower carboxylic acids from aqueous streams via liquid-liquid extraction with pressurized liquefied propylene and/or propane, wherein carboxylic acid is transferred from the aqueous phase into the liquid solvent phase (extract). The extracted carboxylic acids are recovered as a liquid concentrate by evaporating off the propylene and/or propane solvent from the extract at mild temperatures.

Process for recovering acrolein or propionaldehyde from dilute aqueous streams

The process of the present invention consists in bringing into contact, on the one hand, (A) gaseous phosphorus pentafluoride or a gaseous mixture comprising phosphorus pentafluoride and hydrochloric acid, and, on the other hand, (B) a solution of lithium fluoride in hydrofluoric acid, in a column (10) having a sufficient number of transfer units to carry out the reaction of PF.sub.5 with LiF under the chosen conditions of temperature, of pressure and of molar ratio of the two contrasting reactants and with complete or substantially complete absorption of the PF.sub.5 in the column. This process makes it possible to solve the problems of blockage by preventing recrystallizations of salts; to discharge the heat given off by the reaction by the evaporation of a portion of the HF; and to separate the HCl which may be contained in the starting PF.sub.5, without loss of PF.sub.5, thus allowing subsequent recovery/value enhancement of this HCl. Moreover, this process is very simple, with a very small number of stages, which makes it possible to avoid any entry of air or moisture capable of contaminating the final LiPF.sub.6.

A process for the preparation of alkane- and arenesulfonamides in high purity and yield is provided. Ammonia or alkylamine is reacted under boiling conditions with an alkane- or arenesulfonyl halide in the absence of an added solvent. The heat of reaction is dissipated by the heat of vaporization of the ammonia or alkylamine.
