A fenestration unit such as a window or door has a frame with an outer peripheral surface. An array of support brackets are secured to the outer peripheral surface and extend inwardly toward the interior of a building in which the fenestration unit is to be installed. The support brackets are formed with a bendable metal and are secured to the outer surface of the frame without forming holes in the frame through which water may leak. The support brackets may be secured by heat, sonic, or friction welding, or with solvents or adhesives, structural tapes, or other appropriate mechanisms. In one embodiment for use with frames having a vinyl surface, the support brackets may be vinyl coated steel to enable attachment of the support brackets with welding or vinyl adhesive techniques. A method of fabricating fenestration frames with support brackets includes obtaining support brackets and securing them to the fenestration frame without forming holes in the fenestration frame.

A window trim system and method comprises a trim hoop sized to be slid over an outer face of a window frame to the exterior edge of the frame. A stop member formed around the exterior edge abuts and aligns the trim hoop. A friction member may or may not be installed around the inside of the trim hoop to help hold the trim hoop initially in place. Sealant is then applied around the junction of the trim hoop and window frame on the inside of the trim hoop to fix the trim hoop to the window frame and create a seal against air and water infiltration. The resulting window frame and trim assembly is particularly suited for use in an overfit replacement window installation, but may be used in virtually any window installation.

Window trim system

A window, which may be a casement window, includes an opening control mechanism for limiting the amount that the sash of the window can be opened to control ventilation and as a child safety feature. In one configuration, the opening control mechanism includes a frame track and release assembly attached to the window frame and a sash arm assembly including an articulating sash arm attached to the sash of the window. The frame track and release assembly has a track and a roller on one end of the sash arm rides along the track as the window sash begins to open. At the end of the track, the roller engages and is restrained by a release arm or stop thereby preventing the sash from being opened further. A lever or a button operatively coupled to the release arm is disposed inside the dwelling and inside an insect screen of the window. The lever can be slid sideways and then pulled back in two distinct motions to release the roller to allow the sash to be opened beyond its restrained position. The button can be exposed by moving a hingable cover from over the button and the button pressed to release the roller. The sash arm and track re-engage automatically when the window sash is closed.
