Visually directed trocar and method

A new and improved laparoscopic trocar and sleeve assembly in which the trocar is provided with a transparent tip that can include a blade edge and accommodates a light telescope for supplying a video console so that while the trocar is being surgically inserted through the abdominal wall and into the abdominal cavity, visualization on the video console will be possible to avoid injury to blood vessels in the abdominal cavity wall or injury to any of the internal organs located in the abdominal cavity. A handle provided on the trocar facilitates manipulation and control of the trocar tip penetration. Once clear visualization is established, conventional laparoscopic procedures can be carried out safely.

A new alternating current process and system for treatment of blood and/or other body fluids and/or synthetic fluids from a donor to a recipient or storage receptacle or in a recycling system using novel electrically conductive treatment vessels for treating blood and/or other body fluids and/or synthetic fluids with electric field forces of appropriate electric field strength to provide electric current flow through the blood or other body fluids at a magnitude that is biologically compatible but is sufficient to render the bacteria, virus, parasites and/or fungus ineffective to infect or affect normally healthy cells while maintaining the biological usefulness of the blood or other fluids. For this purpose low voltage alternating current electric potentials are applied to the treatment vessel which are of the order of from about 0.2 to 12 volts and produce current flow densities in the blood or other fluids of from one microampere per square millimeter of electrode area exposed to the fluid being treated to about two milliamperes per square millimeter.

Alternating current supplied electrically conductive method and system

A method and system for the treatment of blood and/or other body fluids (such as amniotic fluids) as well as synthetic fluids such as tissue culture medium whereby a fluid to be treated is mechanically filtered for elimination of particles contained therein which exceed 0.2 microns in size (or some other minutely small size) and in addition subjecting the fluid being treated to electric field forces in the microwatt/milliwatt region induced by relatively low voltage of a few volts and low current density which does not exceed values which could impair the biological usefulness and characteristics of the blood or other fluid being treated.

Treatment time within this range of parameters may range for a period of time from about one minute to about 12 minutes.

Electrically conductive methods and systems for treatment of blood and

An electrified intrauterine device (IUD) is provided which has an IUD body member fabricated from materials which are physiologically compatible with human tissue and fluids and physically proportioned to be placed and retained within the uterus of a female mammal. Spaced-apart electrically conductive electrodes are formed on the IUD body member from electrically conductive materials that are physiologically compatible with human tissue and fluids. Self-contained electric batteries are supported within the IUD body member that forms a sealed outer casing of biologically inert material compatible with human tissue and fluids. The batteries are capable of producing an electromotive force of known voltage and current rating and are of a size to be inserted and retained within the uterus of a female mammal. The device is completed by electrically conductive interconnecting conductors between respective opposite polarity terminals of the batteries and respective ones of the spaced-apart electrically conductive electrodes on the IUD body member whereby an electric field force can be established and maintained within the uterus of a female mammal in which the electrified IUD is inserted.

Electrified intrauterine device

An electrified vaginal ring comprising an annular ring member fabricated of a medical grade polymer, elastomer, silicone or other comparable plastic material which is compatible with human tissue and fluids and physically proportioned to fit within the vagina of a female human being or other mammal while surrounding the cervix. The annular ring member has at least two physically spaced-apart, electrically conductive surfaces preferably in the form of spaced-apart bands of conductive material extending around either the periphery of the central opening through the annular ring member, or around the outside perimeter of the annular ring member. The electrically conductive surfaces may be comprised of platinum, a platinum alloy, or other comparable electrically conductive material that is electro-deposited, sprayed or otherwise secured to the annular ring member with the conductive material also being compatible with human tissue and fluids. At least one miniaturized electric cell or a plurality of such cells interconnected to form a miniaturized battery is molded within the body of the annular ring member with respective one of its opposite polarity terminals electrically connected to respective ones of the spaced-apart electrically conductive surfaces.

Electrified vaginal ring

An electrical having electric field producing electrodes either on the exterior or the interior surfaces, or both, of either an electrical cervical cap or an electrical diaphragm and supplying the electrodes with electric potential from miniaturized electrical cells embedded within an enlarged circular rim portion that surrounds the open mouth end of the device. Electrical is provided by the electrically excited electrodes and acts in conjunction with the cervical cap or diaphragm to prevent the migration of male sperm into the open end of the cervical canal of a female human being or other mammal. The electrical cervical cap or diaphragm device can be designed such that it is open at the apex and does not impede the free flow of menstrual and other fluid discharges through the cervical canal. It is fabricated with or covered by biologically inert material so that it can be retained in place in the cervical canal for indefinite periods as long as desired by the user for birth control purposes. The electrical cervical cap or electrical diaphragm thus designed acts not only as an effective birth control measure to prevent the migration of male sperm through the cervical canal into the uterus, but also appears to function as an anti-bacterial and/or anti-viral device.

Electrical, generally rounded resilient, canopy-like contraceptive

A method and device for birth control which comprises producing an electrical force within the cervical canal of a female for acting on male sperm and preventing migration of the sperm through the cervical canal and into the uterine cavity. The electrical force is provided by a self-contained, sealed battery capable by itself of producing an electromotive force and is inserted within the cervical canal and retained therein over extended periods of use. The device is designed such that it does not impede the free flow of menstrual and other discharges through the cervical canal and is fabricated with or covered by biologically inert material so that it can be retained in place in the cervical canal for indefinite periods as long as desired by the user for birth control purposes. The device is provided with anchoring means which are designed to engage the wall of the cervical canal for securely holding the device in place within the cervical canal with the electric force producing electrodes so positioned as to be exposed to fluids passing through the cervical canal.
