Methods and apparatus for tracking a data file corresponding to printed material scanned into a digital transmitter are provided. A database is searched for a tracking number contained in the data file to determine whether the data file is stored in the database. A confirmation message is sent indicating that the data file has been stored in the database upon locating the tracking number. An error message is sent indicating that the data file has not been stored in the database when the tracking number cannot be found in the database.

A process for configuring a computing device to operate with a peripheral device having a configuration control and that is coupled to the computing device via a network, including: detecting activation of the configuration control at the peripheral device; receiving information associated with a user of the computing device at the peripheral device; outputting information from the peripheral device dependent on the received information; and configuring the computing device to operate with the peripheral device using the outputted information.

Device and configuration method

An object is optically scanned to form a corresponding message data in storage. The message data is transmitted over an interconnecting network to an address of an addressed recipient. After receiving an acknowledgement of receipt of the message data from the addressed recipient through the interconnecting network, the message data in storage is deleted.

A transmitter device receives a request from a user for transmission of user message data to a requested network address on a network. A determination is made at the transmitter device whether or not the requested transmission is authorized. A transmission is sent of the user message data to the requested network address when the requested transmission is authorized. A diagnostic is issued when the requested transmission is unauthorized.

Methods and apparatuses for archiving data processed by digital sender and other like devices are provided. By way of example, a removable data storage media device can be added to a digital sender device. Then the digital sender device will be able to optically scan an object to form corresponding scanned object data, provide recipient address data, generate an outgoing message data using the recipient address data, output the message data, and also store the message data using the removable data storage device.

Methods and apparatuses for archiving data processed by a digital sender device

A device scans text of an image media and generates text data corresponding to the scanned text. A research component of the device generates a phrase list from the text data and initiates research for information corresponding to the phrase list.

Management of the network impact caused by a digital transmitter, such as a multifunction peripheral (an MFP), delays file transmission until available network bandwidth is sufficient to prevent adverse network impact. In one implementation, a resource determination module determines resource availabilities, including disk space remaining on the digital transmitter and available network bandwidth. A file priority determination module prioritizes files contained in a file library on the digital transmitter for transmission over a network. A store vs. send decision module determines if a highest priority file should be sent over the network, given the resource availabilities.

Managing the network impact of a digital transmitter

The present disclosure relates to a system and method for processing sending information in a sending device. The method comprises receiving at least a fragment of a destination address/number to which information is to be sent; cross-referencing the address/number fragment with a database assigned to the user to see if the address/number matches an address/number saved for that user; and automatically caching the address/number in the user's database if it has not been previously saved. The system therefore comprises logic configured to receive at least a fragment of a destination address/number to which information is to be sent; logic configured to cross-reference the address/number fragment with a database assigned to the user to see if the address/number matches an address/number saved for that user; and logic configured to automatically cache the address/number in the user's database if it has not been previously saved.

Preferred embodiments may comprise sending a document from a multifunction device to a network destination, and sending a tracking component for the document from the multifunction device to a receipt service. The receipt service may generate a return receipt based at least in part on the tracking component when the document is at the network destination to acknowledge receipt of the document by the network destination.

A scanning apparatus having a linear photosensor, an imaging assembly, and a scanning displacement assembly adapted for producing relatively constant rate linear displacement between an imaged object and the imaging assembly to cause scan line portions of the object to be sequentially imaged on the linear photosensor device and an image registration holding assembly associated with the scanning displacement device to cause an image from each different scan line portion on the object to be temporarily held in registration with the linear photosensor.

A solution to accurately aligning a read-write head over a previously written data track on both a write protected and not write protected tape is disclosed. A control unit, preferably a programmed microprocessor, electronically provides a sequence of control outputs to move the tape and step the head to locate an edge of the tape. The control unit then moves the head a fixed distance to be over a selected data track. A threshold circuit controls the readout of data from the head of the tape in such a way as to improve edge find reliability.
