A hard disk drive is damped in order to reduce tracking errors by isolating the drive from the enclosure it is mounted in using one or more pieces of adhesive viscoelastic material. The hard disk drive is mounted by means of a secondary mounting plate having ventilation holes. Vibrations introduced into the drive from the enclosure, as well as rotational vibrations introduced by the rotation of the drive itself, are substantially damped by the viscoelastic material. As a result, tracking errors are substantially reduced.

Device and method for damping a digital media drive

A locking member formed of resilient material for locking a disk drive within a computer enclosure includes a first cantilevered beam portion positioned along a first side of the disk drive. A first locking protrusion is positioned on the first cantilevered beam portion and is capable of engaging with the enclosure for locking the disk drive therein. A handle portion extends from the cantilevered beam portion for resiliently bending the first cantilevered beam portion inwardly to disengage the first locking protrusion from the enclosure.

A bracket for mounting a sliding fixture to a computer cabinet for enabling a computer to slide relative to the computer cabinet includes a bracket body portion having first and second ends. A first pattern of holes is formed through the bracket body portion enabling the bracket to be mounted to the sliding fixture with fasteners. A first flange portion extends from the first end of the bracket body portion at an angle relative to the bracket body portion. A second pattern of holes is formed through the first flange portion. A second flange portion extends from the second end of the bracket body portion at an angle relative to the bracket body portion. A third pattern of holes is formed through the second flange portion. The second flange portion extends from the bracket body portion on the same side as the first flange portion such that a user can mount the bracket to the cabinet when the cabinet includes mounting holes either corresponding to the second pattern of holes or corresponding to the third pattern of holes by orienting one of the first and second flange portions against the mounting holes of the cabinet in a manner wherein the holes in said flange portion match the mounting holes in the cabinet thereby enabling said flange portion to be secured thereto with fasteners.

Cabinet slide mounting bracket

An EMI shielding gasket made of springy electrically conductive material. The gasket includes a pair of generally parallel laterally spaced apart U-shaped channel members each with its channel entrance facing away from the other member. A pair of ends oriented transversely of the U-shaped channel members connect the members together at their end regions. The ends are resiliently deformable to allow the U-shaped channel members to be moved more closely together to facilitate mounting the gasket.

A mounting block is disclosed which may be inserted and retained in a standard double-D aperture of a panel. The mounting block has a body which conforms in size and shape to the aperture and two ledges which provide ledge retaining surfaces. The mounting block also has two rectilinear notches in the body which expose notch surfaces which are in parallel spaced apart relationship with the ledge retention surfaces. The mounting block is inserted into the aperture and rotated 90 degrees of lock the mounting block in its retention position. In the retention position, the panel is captured between the ledge retention surfaces and the notch surfaces. Thus retained in the aperture, the mounting block is suitable for supporting loads or providing attachment points for screws or other fasteners.
