Estimating absolute geospatial accuracy in input images without the use of surveyed control points is disclosed. For example, the absolute geospatial accuracy of a satellite images may be estimated without the use of control points (GCPs). The absolute geospatial accuracy of the input images may be estimated based on a statistical measure of relative accuracies between pairs of overlapping images. The estimation of the absolute geospatial accuracy may include determining a root mean square error of the relative accuracies between pairs of overlapping images. For example, the absolute geospatial accuracy of the input images may be estimated by determining a root mean square error of the shears of respective pairs of overlapping images. The estimated absolute geospatial accuracy may be used to curate GCPs, evaluate a digital elevation map, generate a heatmap, or determine whether the adjust the images until a target absolute geospatial accuracy is met.

Absolute geospatial accuracy model for remote sensing without surveyed control points

A set of input images from satellites (or other remote sensors) can be orthorectified and stitched together to create a mosaic. If the resulting mosaic is not of suitable quality, the input images can be adjusted and the processes of orthorectifying and creating the mosaic can be repeated. However, orthorectifying and creating the mosaic uses a large amount of computational resources and takes a lot of time. Therefore, performing numerous iterations is expensive and sometimes not practical. To overcome these issues, it is proposed to generate an indication of accuracy of the resulting mosaic prior to orthorectifying and creating the mosaic by accessing a set of points in the plurality of input images, projecting the points to a model, determining residuals for the projected points, and generating the indication of accuracy of the orthorectified mosaic based on the determined residuals.

Orbitting satellites with automated accuracy for orthorectified mosaics

A method of accessing a plurality of storage devices is disclosed. A system and a computer program product for emulating tape libraries are also disclosed. First and second virtual storage devices with first and second address spaces, respectively, are defined. The first and second address spaces are mapped to portions on each of a plurality of storage devices. The storage devices can be part of a power managed RAID system where all the storage devices are not powered on at one time. A stream of contiguous address values are received and a storage device is selected. Finally, data is stored on the portion of the selected storage device so that multiple data streams can be written at all times, even though all the storage devices are not powered on. Similarly, stored data may be retrieved from the selected storage device by traversing the scattered streams.

Method and system for accessing a plurality of storage devices

The 1U rack mount equipment enclosure with increased structural support, supports internal components without adding to the over all height of the 1U form factor. The peripheral device is mounted between front supports which bear the weight of the peripheral device. A central support provides support necessary to prevent deflection of the front supports. Rear supports between the central support and the rear side provide support to prevent the central support from bending due to the force placed on the central support by the front supports.

A peripheral mounting system for installing, removing and replacing peripheral devices from a chassis without the use of tools. A pair of side brackets secured to the chassis provide slots into which fasteners connected to the side of the peripheral device are installed to restrain the peripheral device. In an embodiment, clips protruding outward from the side of the slots allow the fasteners to slide into position while also retaining the peripheral device in the installed position. The pair of side brackets in conjunction with the fasteners on the peripheral device provide a means for mounting the peripheral device without requiring additional area above or below the peripheral device. A cover latching mechanism may securely latch the cover closed and provides additional retention of the peripheral device in the vertical direction.

Tool-less field replaceable peripheral mounting system

A magnetic tape (,) is formatted to be interchangeably usable by a plurality of types of devices, including an audio/visual recording/reproducing device (,), a random access recording/reproducing device (,), and a sequential access recording/reproducing device (,). The tape has frames (,) of a plurality of frame types, including control frames and user frames. Each frame has an AUX data structure (,) wherein resides a field which indicates the frame type of the frame. Selected ones of a plurality of control tables or frames (,) are present on the tape in accordance with the type of data recorded on the tape (e.g., audio/visual data and non-audio/visual data) and the particular types of devices which are to utilize the tape. The user frames of the tape have a field in the AUX data structure which specifies the nature of the data therein, e.g., as general purpose data or audio/visual data. The tape has a permanently embedded servo format whereby each of the frames are hard sectored with a permanent physical relationship to the tape.

Multipurpose digital recording method and apparatus and media therefor

Method and apparatus are provided for re-recording of a frame on magnetic tape (22) when a first recording of the frame is determined to be defective. A frame whose first recording is defective is re-recorded at a spare or reserved location on the tape. The reserved location is dedicated to re-recording of frames, and otherwise cannot have data stored therein. The tape contains a defect map frame (326) which is used to pair physical locations of defective frames with the reserved location whereat the frame is re-recorded. In one embodiment, the reserved location whereat a frame is re-recorded is a reserved physical frame on the same track in which the defective frame is recorded. In another embodiment, the reserved location is on a reserved portion of a track (TG39R) which is not the original track (TG39) upon which the frame is recorded. For embodiments having multi-channel or multi-track frames, the reserved location employs a corresponding plurality of tracks.

Handling defective frames on hard sectored magnetic tape

In serpentine recording on magnetic tape (32), a warning marker (CEW) is generated and recorded on tape in a write mode and is read in a read mode. The warning marker indicates that a head is approaching a boundary position on the tape at which the head must change tracks in order to continue recording or reading frames. The warning marker is preferably included in an auxiliary portion of at least some frames. In one embodiment, the warning marker has a value related to a number of frames that can yet be recorded on the track before the boundary position is encountered. Monitoring of the warning marker serves to apprise the drive of a potential need to cache data in anticipation of a change of track. Caching of data can occur either by sending a caching signal to the host, or can occur internally in the drive without taxing the drive's buffer. In the drive-internal caching, the relative speed between the tape and the head is adjusted in anticipation of the head being repositioned for a change of track.

Early warning for boundary position in serpentine recording

An interface apparatus or Nest (30) fits into a peripheral slot (24) connected to an IDE bus (60) of a host computer. IDE devices, such as magnetic tape drives and hard drives, are hot swapable in and out of Nest (30) while the IDE bus is active. The Nest isolates the IDE device from the active IDE bus until such time (e.g., initialization of the IDE device) as connection of the IDE device to the IDE bus will not corrupt the IDE bus, after which time the Nest connects the IDE device to the IDE bus while the IDE bus is active. A nest driver (230) is executed for computer systems (200) which tend to establish a permanent inventory of IDE devices upon system boot-up. The nest driver determines whether a Nest is connected to the host; determines whether an IDE device has been inserted in the Nest; and determines when the IDE device in the Nest has been initialized. After device initialization, the nest driver (1) opens the Nest so that the IDE device is connected to the IDE bus and the Nest becomes transparent to the host; (2) queries the IDE device installed in the Nest to determine its device type, and thereafter (3) reenumerates a dynamic device database maintained by the operating system of the host.

Bus interface for IDE device

A magnetic tape drive dynamically adjusts a transport rate of tape (32) in accordance with a host data rate. The host data rate is assessed in relation to a data fill level of a buffer (116). A controller (130) of the drive compares the data fill level of the buffer with a buffer normalization value and generates an adjustment value for adjusting a signal indicative of the desired linear velocity of the tape. In one embodiment, the controller also dynamically changes the buffer normalization value to reflect e.g., historical performance of the host. In another embodiment the controller adjusts the transport rate when a head (100) is within a predetermined distance of a boundary point whereat the head must change tracks.
