The present invention relates to transgenic plants comprising a plurality of nucleic acids heterologous to said plant, each of said nucleic acid comprising a coding sequence operably linked to one or more regulatory elements for directing expression of said coding sequence in said plant, said nucleic acid being stably integrated at or adjacent to rDNA sequences, or a seed, organ, tissue, part or cell thereof, or a descendant of said plant, seed, organ, tissue, part or cell; methods of producing the transgenic plants; and methods of producing oil using the transgenic plants.

Production of modified fatty acids in plants through rDNA targeted integration of heterologous genes

The present invention relates to methods to control the spread of recombinant DNA molecules between sexually compatible plants of differing genetic composition. The invention describes the production of transgenic plants that comprise recombinant traits of interest or concern linked to repressible lethal genes. The lethal genes are blocked by the action of repressor molecules produced by the expression of repressor genes located at a different genetic locus. The lethal phenotype is only expressed after the segregation of the repressible lethal gene construct and the repressor gene following meiosis. The present invention may be employed for both open-pollinated and hybrid seed production systems and may be used to maintain genetic purity by blocking unintended introgression of genes from plants devoid of the specific repressor gene. The invention includes methods that impart traits that are desirable for environmentally responsible heterologous protein production, to genetic material used to impart said traits and to new plants and products derived by said methods.

Methods and genetic compositions to limit outcrossing and undesired gene flow in crop plants

Genetic constructs, transformation vectors and methods are taught for production of transgenic plants which can be selectively removed from a growing site by application of a chemical agent or physiological stress. The invention links a target gene for the trait of commercial interest to a conditionally lethal gene, which can be selectively expressed to cause plant death. By use of the genetic constructs, transformation vectors and methods of the present invention, invasion of environments and contamination of commercial non-engineered productions by transgenic plants can be avoided. Methods are also taught for transformation ofspecies.
