A solid oxide fuel cell comprising a thin ceramic electrolyte sheet having an increased street width is disclosed. Also disclosed are solid oxide fuel cells comprising: a substantially flat ceramic electrolyte sheet, a substantially flat ceramic electrolyte sheet having a seal area of greater thickness than the active area of the electrolyte sheet, a ceramic electrolyte sheet that overhangs the seal area, a ceramic electrolyte sheet and at least one substantially flat border material, and a border material having a non-linear edge. Methods of making a solid oxide fuel cell in accordance with the disclosed embodiments are also disclosed. Also disclosed are methods of making a solid oxide fuel cell wherein the seal has a uniform thickness, wherein the seal is heated to remove a volatile component prior to sealing, and wherein the distance between the frame and the ceramic electrolyte sheet of the device is constant.

Methods for reducing stress on an isopipe during manufacture of a drawn glass sheet are disclosed including a method comprising providing an isopipe having a root, heating the isopipe to a predetermined temperature, maintaining the isopipe at the predetermined temperature for a period of time sufficient to relieve at least a portion of a tensile stress on the isopipe root, coupling the isopipe to a down-comer, and then providing glass to the isopipe. Also disclosed is a method comprising heating an isopipe such that the temperature difference between the weir and the root of the isopipe, after heating and prior to coupling, is less than about 100&#xb0; C. A method comprising application of a compressive force to the ends of an isopipe root during heating is also disclosed.

Process to preserve isopipe during coupling

Disclosed is an isopipe for use in the manufacture of sheet glass by, and more specifically to an isopipe designed to control sag during use, as well as a method for reducing the sag of an isopipe used in a fusion process for molten glass. In one embodiment, the isopipe comprises a cavity that extends at least partially through the refractory body of the isopipe along its longitudinal length. The cavity has varying cross-sections configured such that, for at least a portion of the length of the isopipe, the load bending moment is greater than or generally equal to the gravity bending moment. In one embodiment, the neutral axis varies along the length of the cavity and has a similar profile to that of the gravity bending moment diagram.

Isopipe design feature to reduce sag

Systems, methods, apparatus and products relate to systematic calculation and execution of pin height adjustments within a bed of nails shape measurement gauge with respect to a measured subject, such as glass substrates, and in particular, to using a bed of nails gauge for measuring a gravity-free shape of a surface of an object, including glass substrates used to make liquid crystal display (LCD) glass sheets. One or more embodiments may include a plurality of pins operable to support the surface during measurement. Each pin comprises a load cell operable to transmit measurement signals, and a height adjuster operable to receive adjustment signals and execute pin height adjustments upon receiving adjustment signals. Execution of the pin height adjustments systematically positions the pins so that the surface exerts on each pin a measured force nearing a target force corresponding to the gravity-free shape.
