The space frame includes a plurality of frame elements coupled together at a plurality of nodes. The auxiliary power unit enclosure also includes a fairing coupled to and surrounding the space frame.

Auxiliary power unit enclosure and method of making the same

A method and system for attaching a vertical stabilizer to an aircraft fuselage using a clevis system is disclosed. A composite skin is installed over the aircraft fuselage. The composite skin has apertures for receiving a plurality of clevises in a clevis system. The plurality of clevises is inserted through the apertures in the composite skin. Each of the plurality of clevises is secured to a frame member in the aircraft fuselage. The vertical stabilizer has a multi-spar box connected with a base rib assembly having a plurality of lugs. The base rib assembly of the vertical stabilizer is engaged with the clevis system. The plurality of lugs in the base rib assembly is secured to the plurality of clevises in the clevis system. Attachment of the vertical stabilizer to the aircraft fuselage, as well as subsequent inspection, may be performed from outside the aircraft.

Method and system for coupling a vertical stabilizer to an aircraft fuselage

A vehicle, such as an aircraft, structural architecture for supporting a horizontal stabilizer with a back up beam having an upper longeron fitting connected to the front side and secured with a back up fitting on the back side, a lower longeron fitting connected to the front side and secured with a back up fitting on the back side, and a pivot fitting connected to the front side of the first back up beam in between the upper longeron fitting and the lower longeron fitting and secured with a third back up fitting on the back side of the back up beam.

There is provided a method of making a composite hat stiffener. The method has the steps of curing a composite hat stiffener in a hat tool to form a pre-cured composite hat stiffener. The pre-cured composite hat stiffener has a composite hat section, a plurality of composite stiffening plies with a body ply, a wrap ply, and a base ply, all coupled to the composite hat section, wherein the body ply is coupled to a first side of the composite hat section, the wrap ply is coupled to the body ply, and the base ply is coupled to the body ply and the wrap ply, a pair of radius filler noodles coupled to the composite hat section and disposed between the plurality of composite stiffening plies, and an outer ply coupled to the composite hat section. The method further includes bonding the pre-cured composite hat stiffener to a structure surface.

Composite hat stiffener, composite hat-stiffened pressure webs, and methods of making the same

There is provided a composite hat stiffener, a composite hat-stiffened pressure web, and a method of making the same. The composite hat stiffener has a composite hat section having a first side and a second side. The composite hat stiffener further has a plurality of composite stiffening plies coupled to the composite hat section. The plurality of composite stiffening plies include a body ply coupled to the first side of the composite hat section, a wrap ply coupled the body ply, and a base ply coupled to the body ply and the wrap ply. The composite hat stiffener further has a pair of radius filler noodles coupled to the composite hat section and disposed between the plurality of composite stiffening plies. The composite hat stiffener further has an outer ply coupled to the second side of the composite hat section.

A fuselage section may include a structural member and a frame member having a stub frame extending over the structural member. The stub frame may have a web. The fuselage section may include an intercostal extending from a terminal end of the stub frame and having an end flange. The fuselage section may additionally include an adjustable splice fitting having a web, a lower flange, and an end flange being mountable in faying contact with respective ones of the stub frame web, the structural member, and the intercostal end flange.

Adjustable splice fitting for shimless connection of structual members

A passenger headrest is platform deployable and stowable from a passenger seat. The platform operates as a rear headrest and is pivoted to a forward position to serve as a forward leaning face-headrest. The headrest includes a headrest platform that is attached to an adjustable post made of tubular construction and having a plurality of holes. The adjustable post is concentrically dimensioned to be slidably received by a tubular bar. The tubular bar has a set of holes and is pivotably attached to the passenger seat. A first connector secures the adjustable post and tubular bar to each other. The headrest is pivotable through a range of motion adjusted by a passenger, wherein the passenger selects an inclination angle. The inclination angle used by the passenger is established via a second connector that secures the tubular bar to the seat.
