Information maintained in a port control block of an embedded port of a host bus adapter is stored in a host bus adapter memory, wherein the information corresponds to login attributes and state data of remote ports. In response to storing the information in the host bus adapter memory, code in the embedded port is updated. In response to the updating of the code in the embedded port, the stored information is restored from the host bus adapter memory to the port control block of the embedded port.

An interface hardware of a device suspends processing of frames from a receive queue maintained by a firmware stored in the memory of the interface hardware. New firmware is loaded for the interface hardware, in response to the suspending of the processing of frames from the receive queue, and in response to receiving at least one command subsequent to loading of a new driver software for a driver of the device. The processing of frames from the receive queue is resumed, in response to the loading of the new firmware.

In one aspect of the present description, in an input/output (I/O) device having multiple CPUs and multiple I/O ports, a cycle of I/O port rotations is initiated in which each port rotation of the cycle includes rotating an assignment of at least one I/O port from one CPU to a different CPU of a plurality of the CPUs. In the illustrated embodiment, an I/O port assignment for each CPU of the plurality CPUs is rotated for at least a portion of the cycle. Other features and aspects may be realized, depending upon the particular application.

Processing of frames from a receive queue maintained by a port firmware of an embedded port of a host bus adapter is suspended via a request from a driver of the host bus adapter. A driver of a host bus adapter of a storage controller performs hardware resets of buses and other logic to which an embedded port of the host bus adapter is connected, in a first period of quiescing of I/O operations in the embedded port. The driver transmits one or more commands to the embedded port to resume selected I/O operations in the embedded port. A reinitialization of the driver is performed during a second period of quiescing of I/O operations in the embedded port, prior to sending a command to allow normal I/O operations in the embedded port.

One or more commands are received to resume selected I/O operations in the embedded port. A second set of commands is received to quiesce I/O operations for a second period. A command is received to allow normal I/O operations, subsequent to the driver being reinitialized during the second period of quiescing of I/O operations.

Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for interacting with a remote server over a network to determine whether to allow data exchange with a resource at the remote server. Detection is made of an attempt to exchange data with the remote resource over the network. At least one computer instruction is executed to perform at least one interaction with the server over the network to request requested server information for each of the at least one interaction. At least one instance of received server information is received. A determination is made whether the at least one instance of the received server information satisfies at least one security requirement. A determination is made of whether to prevent the exchanging of data with the remote resource based on whether the at least one instance of the received server information satisfies the at least one security requirement.

Various embodiments for troubleshooting a network device in a computing storage environment by a processor. A determination is made if a parity error in a specific port is either an instruction cache parity error or a recoverable data cache type parity error. If the parity error is determined not to be the instruction cache parity error, and determined not to be the recoverable data cache type parity error, a full recovery operation is initiated.
