The invention relates generally to a modular display panel for enclosing Commercial-Off-The-Shelf ('COTS') display technologies. More particularly, the invention relates to a modular display panel for housing COTS light emitting or transmitting display subassemblies such as Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) for military and other severe environments. The modular display assembly can comprise a base plate, a first frame, a window, a second, a circuit located, and a plurality of light emitting diodes mounted on the circuit board. The COTS light emitting or transmitting display subassembly can be connected to the second frame.

An apparatus designed to float on or in a liquid has at least two buoyant members. The apparatus utilizes relative motion between the buoyant members to generate power, and the buoyant members are coupled to the apparatus in such a manner that surface movement of a fluid that the apparatus is floating in causes relative motion between the buoyant members. The apparatus may be a housing that includes an electrical apparatus within it, with the electrical apparatus being powered directly or indirectly by power generated by the floating apparatus. The apparatus may be a sonobuoy, and may include a sensor array hanging from a floating housing that includes the at least two buoyant members.

A modular display assembly comprising a light emitting or transmitting display panel and a glass panel wherein: the display and glass panel are separated from each other by a frame assembly; and the display is coupled to the frame assembly by at least one elastic isolator.

Non-ruggedized COTS display packaging for severe environment applications

Apparatus and methods relating to display stacks wherein one or more index matching layers are utilized to minimize reflectance at the boundaries of otherwise adjacent layers. More particularly, the present invention is directed to methods and apparatus relating to a multilayer display stack comprising a glass layer, a first index matching layer, a first intermediate layer, a second index matching layer, a second intermediate layer, and a light emitting display panel wherein: the glass layer, first index matching layer, first intermediate layer, second index matching layer, and second intermediate layer are each transparent or translucent, and comprise an index of refraction; the index of refraction of the first index matching layer is between the index of refraction of the glass layer and the first intermediate layer; and the index of refraction of the second index matching layer is between the index of refraction of the first intermediate layer and the second intermediate layer. Alternative embodiments may comprise additional index matching layers, additional non-index matching layers, as well as layers other than those described herein.
