Catheter device for delivering mechanical waves

A method of and a system for treating a lesion. A waveguide is inserted into a vessel of a subject, with the lesion being present in the vessel and the waveguide extending longitudinally between a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end of the waveguide is positioned adjacent to the lesion, and a high amplitude broadband mechanical pulse is generated and propagated from the proximal end to the distal end of the waveguide. At least a portion of the high amplitude broadband mechanical pulse is propagated from the distal end of the waveguide to the lesion, with the at least a portion of the high amplitude broadband mechanical pulse propagating up to the lesion, thereby treating at least partially the lesion.

Method and system for treating lesions

There is described a device for connecting a first mechanical waveguide and a second mechanical waveguide, including a first body for receiving the first waveguide, and a second body for receiving the second waveguide. The second body includes a tubular member having a first thread extending on an internal surface thereof, a first tubular screw having a second thread on an external surface corresponding to the first thread, and a third thread extending on an internal surface, with a pitch of the second thread being greater than a pitch of the third thread. The second body also includes a second tubular screw having a fourth thread extending on an external surface corresponding to the third thread with the second tubular screw being threadingly and frictionally engaged with the first tubular screw, a triggering member for rotating the first tubular screw, and an indexer for limiting a rotation of the second tubular screw to at least an initial angular position.

A computer is in operative connection with the signal generator to cause it to generate the electrical signals. A mechanical input wave is created by the source at the first end of the waveguide. The mechanical input wave is constructed independently of data related to a mechanical wave received from a source in the medium and taking into account the different predetermined propagation velocities of at least two component waves of the mechanical input wave so that they combine with each other at a second end of the waveguide to form the desired mechanical output wave in the medium.

A mechanism for puncturing gas cartridges comprises a lever comprising a short lever arm and a long lever arm, both arms extending from a pivot. The mechanism also comprises a ramp for pushing laterally a tip of the long lever arm under application of an input force on the ramp. The lever is configured to rotate about the pivot under lateral movement of the tip of the long lever arm, causing a tip of the short lever arm to apply a puncturing force between the gas cartridge and a puncturing member. A main body may receive the gas cartridge, the puncturing member and the lever. An actuator may be slidably mounted on the main body for applying the input force on the ramp by sliding towards the main body. The mechanism may be incorporated in a gas injection device or in a needleless syringe.
