An improved method and system for identifying and displaying related images obtained during an examination is disclosed. Each image includes both pixel data, corresponding to the image to be displayed, and location information, defining a relationship between the pixel data and a reference point. During a review of the images, a physician may identify an abnormality or particular region of interest in one image. The location information corresponding to the position identified by the physician within the image is obtained from the image file. Having identified location information for a particular location on the first image, the system analyzes the location information corresponding to the pixel data for each of the other stored images to identify any other image that intersects the identified location. All images that intersect the identified location may then be displayed adjacent to the first image for inspection by the physician.

Method and system for identifying and displaying medical images

A system for automatically identifying a needle insertion location from a medical diagnostic image, such as an MRI image, and providing a visual indication of the needle insertion location is disclosed. A grid plate is located proximate to an anatomical region and is preferably incorporated in an MRI support structure utilized to immobilize the anatomical region. An MRI scanner obtains an MRI image of the anatomical region, and an MRI technician places a marker on the MRI image, identifying the needle insertion location. The MRI image and the marker are transferred from the MRI scanner to another device, such as a tablet computer, which is configured to convert the MRI image and the marker to coordinates and an insertion depth. A visual indicator is located proximate to or integrated with the grid plate that provides the needle insertion coordinates and insertion depth to the MRI technician.

Automatic needle insertion location identification

A physiologic transmitter manages multiple communications between physiologic data acquisition devices attached to the patient and a receiver attached to an MRI or CT scanner. The transmitter's processor is able to generate waveform data and trigger data based upon the acquired physiologic data and transmit the data to a physiologic receiver attached to the host scanner. The receiver then is able to deliver a trigger signal to the host scanner for imaging the patient during a selected time frame based upon cardiac and/or respiratory cycles of the patient.

Method and apparatus for high reliability wireless communications

Embodiments presented herein provide apparatus and methods for imaging-assisted determination of pressure gradient of blood flow across a valve orifice in a cardiovascular circuit without the use of velocity data measured at the valve orifice. An embodiment of the methods comprise creating an image of a valve orifice, creating a planimeter slice from the image of the valve orifice including a trace of the perimeter of the valve orifice, determining the valve orifice area by determining the area contained within the trace, determining the instantaneous flow rate through the valve orifice based on bulk flow data away from the valve, and determining the instantaneous pressure gradient across the valve orifice from the valve orifice area and the instantaneous flow rate.

Noninvasive methods for determining the pressure gradient across a heart valve without using velocity data at the valve orifice

The present invention discloses a modular MRI imaging system. The imaging system includes MRI radio-frequency antenna arrays separate from the patient support structure. The antenna arrays are affixed to a thin, flexible film such that they may be located next to the anatomical region of interest. In addition, multiple antenna arrays may be configured in various planar or three-dimensional arrangements to optimize the FOV and SNR. Separate patient support structures are provided that enhance ergonomics and patient stabilization. By removing the antenna from the housing, the support structures may be designed without the constraints of supporting the antenna or the associated electronics. The MRI imaging system further employs a preamplifier module. The preamplifier module houses the preamplifier and much of the other associated circuitry for each of the antennae. The preamplifier module operates to combine the signals from the antenna arrays and pass the signals to the MRI system.

Modular apparatus for magnetic resonance imaging

A system and method for MR imaging is disclosed that includes displaying a series of MR images of an ROI in real-time and localizing a slice within the ROI. The method also includes using a parallel imaging technique to acquire gated MR data from the localized slice and reconstructing a prescribed fixed number of gated MR images of the localized slice.

Disclosed herein is a system and method for decreasing gradient field pulse sequence duration and reducing peripheral nerve stimulation with known gradient pulse areas for a magnetic resonance imaging system. The method comprising: receiving a first desired area corresponding to a first pulse; obtaining a second desired area corresponding to a second pulse; selecting the first pulse as a nested pulse if the first desired area is smaller than the second desired area, and establishing the second pulse as a nesting pulse, otherwise selecting the second pulse as the nested pulse and establishing the first pulse as the nesting pulse. The method also includes: determining an amplitude and pulse duration for the nested pulse and ascertaining an amplitude and pulse duration for the nesting pulse. Finally, the method includes arranging a plurality of gradient field pulse sequences to include the nested pulse and the nesting pulse.

Magnetic resonance imaging with nested gradient pulses

A method and apparatus is disclosed for MR perfusion acquisition using a notched RF saturation pulse. In acquiring such MR data, a volume of slice locations is selected in which MR data is to be acquired. Each given slice is prepared with a notched RF saturation pulse which has a stop-band between a pair of pass-bands. The stop-band is designed to not affect the spins in the next slice in which MR data is to be acquired thereby effectively increasing the TI and increasing SNR and contrast simultaneously. Since the notched saturation pulse saturates all the spins outside of the notched stop-band, the blood in the ventricular chamber is effectively saturated so that the resulting perfusion images have blood pool suppression. Additionally, the use of a 90&deg; presaturation RF pulse provides a high level of immunity to the effects of arrhythmias or other variations in the patient's heart rate. In order to keep the stop-band, or the notch, as wide as possible to overlap the boundaries of each slice location, it is preferable to interleave the acquisition of slice locations.

Method and apparatus for MR perfusion image acquisition using a notched RF saturation pulse

The apparatus and method alters the intravenous delivery of pharmaceuticals to enhance imaging of the vasculature of an animal. The apparatus includes a pressure-inducing component that is sized to attach circumferentially to an extremity of an animal thereby impeding arterial blood flow causing said pharmaceuticals to remain at selected levels within the vasculature.

Apparatus and method for improving diagnoses

A cap for use in dispensing viscous liquids from containers without the accompaniment of lower viscosity liquid present in the container. The cap has a top portion with an outside surface and an inside surface and an elongated conduit formed at a pre-determined angle. The elongated conduit has an outlet and an inlet. The outlet is situated either eccentrically or concentrically on the outside surface of the top portion such that at least one point on the circumference of the top portion is greater than 10 millimeters from the edge of the inlet.

Cap for dispensing viscous liquids

A method, and related apparatus, for suppressing the magnetic resonance signal to an experimentally adjustable depth by applying a spatially inhomogeneous field between the slice-select pulse and the data acquisition. Eliminating the signal from near surface regions allows one to shrink the field of view of an image without introducing aliasing artifacts, thereby improving the image's resolution or decreasing imaging time. Experimental tests on a phantom and a human subject indicate that the depth of signal suppression may be continuously varied to depths of over 80 millimeters with modest requirements on power supplies, pulse sequences, and materials.

Local magnetization spoiling using a gradient insert for reducing the field of view in magnetic resonance imaging

A system and method for arterial and venous discrimination in MR venography is disclosed. By setting a noise level in the phase image (that is proportional to the velocity encoding value) at a threshold level between that of the arterial signals and the venous signals during the diastole portion of the cardiac cycle and acquiring a phase contrast MR image during the diastole portion, the arterial signals are effectively suppressed and a venous only image can be reconstructed. Post-processing steps are disclosed which can alternatively provide an arterial only image. By separately reconstructing a magnitude image and a phase image map to produce a magnitude image and a phase image, a masking module can create an output displaying venous only or arterial only images based on a user selection. The present invention allows for a complete noninvasive angiography exam to be completed within approximately 30 minutes.

Method and system for MRI venography including arterial and venous discrimination

A method is disclosed to reconstruct multiphase MR images that accurately depict the entire cardiac cycle. A segmented, echo-planar imaging (EPI) pulse sequence is used to acquire data continuously during each cardiac cycle. Images are retrospectively reconstructed by selecting views from each heartbeat based on cardiac phase.

Acquisition of segmented MRI cardiac data using an EPI pulse sequence

An MRI scan is conducted in which velocity encoded NMR data is acquired for a slice through the heart. Velocity images and magnitude images are reconstructed at multiple cardiac phases and masks are formed using the magnitude images. The masks are applied to the velocity images to isolate the left ventricle, and rigid body motion is calculated and subtracted from the masked velocity images to indicate deformation of the left ventricle.
