An ignition safety device (ISD) used in an ignition system of a missile is configured to selectively control the ignition of two or more pulses or stages of a rocket motor propulsion system, based on a flight profile mode selection of a flight velocity mode, in which the missile is configured to travel at an optimized flight velocity, or a flight distance mode, in which the missile is configured to travel an optimized flight distance. The ISD is configured to selectively ignite the pulses or stages substantially simultaneously upon selection of the flight velocity mode, or in a delayed sequential manner upon selection of the flight distance mode. The ISD is also configured to selectively inhibit the delayed sequential ignition of the pulses or stages in the event of incidental ground or water impact of the missile after ignition of the primary pulse or stage.

Ignition safety device for a multi-pulse or multi-stage rocket motor system

A method of solenoid valve control includes measuring voltage across the solenoid valve and current through the solenoid valve, and using the results to aid in controlling the solenoid valve. For instance, one or both of the measured values may be used to determine when actual engagement of the solenoid valve occurs. An initial lower voltage and lower current can be used, and then as conditions change, the changes in condition can be accounted for by increasing voltage and current to maintain the desired response time of the solenoid valve. By measuring and controlling voltage and current less of a margin can be used, both in setting voltage/current levels and in selecting the time over which a pull voltage/current is utilized. This reduces the wasted energy in the system, as well as reducing the temperature rise in the solenoid valve.

An arrangement for calibrating a Venturi valve includes a source of flow measurements and a processing circuit. The Venturi valve has a variable shaft position and is operable to provide an air flow corresponding to the variable shaft position. The processing circuit is operable to provide a plurality of voltages to an actuator, the actuator operable to change the variable shaft position dependent on said plurality of voltages. The processing circuit is also operable to receive from the source of flow measurements a flow measure for each variable shaft position corresponding to each of the plurality of voltages. The processing circuit is further operable to store information representative of the relationship between each of the plurality of voltages and the flow measures.

Valve calibration method and apparatus

Apparatus for controlling the volume of air that is supplied and exhausted from a electronic semiconductor manufacturing wet bench is disclosed. The volume of air that is exhausted from the wet bench is increased during predetermined portions of the manufacturing process and is reduced during noncritical times as a function of predetermined conditions that may be detected or otherwise determined during the manufacturing process.

A fume hood exhaust terminal for controlling gas flow in an exhaust duct has an electrically powered ultrasonic motor driven actuator for angularly positioning a damper in the terminal. The circuitry of the terminal includes a power failure detection circuit which includes the capability of storing sufficient power to place the damper in a preferred position until power is restored to the exhaust terminal.

A fume hood controller includes detection apparatus for detecting the presence of objects within the fume hood and reduces the flow through the fume hood if there are no objects within the hood, thereby conserving energy costs associated with conditioning supply air to the room where the fume hood is located. The controller also adjusts flow as a function of the presence and also the location of objects that are detected within the fume hood. Since there is a smaller likelihood of fume spillage when the objects are located more deeply within the fume hood, the flow can be reduced in such a situation compared to that which would be required if the objects are located closer to the sash.

A fume hood exhaust terminal for controlling gas flow in an exhaust duct has an electrically driven linear actuator for angularly positioning a damper in the terminal. Drive circuitry employed in the preferred embodiment prevents the possibility of shorting out the actuator motor in the event of an input signal condition which would attempt to operate the motor in two directions simultaneously. The circuit also includes a power failure detection circuit which includes the capability of storing sufficient power to place the damper in a preferred position until power is restored to the exhaust terminal.

The speed of movement of a sash door is detected and an alarm signal is generated if the speed of movement exceeds a predetermined value while increasing the size of the uncovered opening of the fume hood.

A system for monitoring the operation of laboratory fume hoods is disclosed. The system includes a local area network for reporting alarm conditions and other data to a building supervisory control system. The system has a calibrating capability which is adapted to build a database of the operating parameters of the fume hood which can be used to detect any degradation of the operation of the fume hood.

Apparatus for use in determining the position of an object such as a sash door of a laboratory fume hood which has an elongated base member for attachment to the fume hood adjacent the sash doors. It includes an electrical switching means having an elongated electrical resistance means that provides a signal indicative of the position of a sash door, and an actuator means associated with each sash door adapted to move when the sash door is moved. The actuator means includes an actuator assembly positioned to operate the switching means at a switch location that varies as the sash door is moved. The actuator means includes a linkage means that permits accurate operation even though there is undesirable movement of the door relative to the base member.

Position sensing apparatus

Apparatus for controlling the air flow through a fume hood to maintain a predetermined average face velocity through an uncovered portion of an opening of a fume hood of the type which has at least one movable sash door adapted to cover the opening as the fume hood sash door is moved. The apparatus detects the position of each moveable sash door and calculates the size of the uncovered portion of the opening, measures the actual flow of air through the exhaust duct, and varies the flow of air through the exhaust duct responsive to door position signals and the actual flow signal for controlling a flow modulating means to maintain the predetermined average face velocity through the uncovered portion of the opening.

A sensing means for determining the absolute position of one or more structures such as doors, windows or the like that are moveable in sets of tracks. Apparatus comprises an electrical switching means having an elongated electrical resistance means with a predetermined resistance value per unit length located adjacent to one of the sash doors, actuator means associated with the sash doors for operating said switching means, circuit means adapted to provide a substantially constant electrical current through a portion of said resistance means between an end portion of said resistance means and the nearest switch location, said circuit means thereby providing a voltage signal having a magnitude that is proportional to the distance between said end portion of said resistance means and the switch location.
