A touchpad assembly capable of providing an operating surface of a touchpad in a plurality of operating positions. The operating assembly can be adjusted by changing the orientation of the operating surface of the touchpad or by changing the form of the operating surface. The touchpad assembly including a supporting device for supporting the operating surface.

Adjustable touchpad

An apparatus that includes a keyboard movable by a user while her hands are resting on the keyboard actuates a pointing device for a computer system. The movement of the keyboard maneuvers or steers the pointing device, and the user's hands need never be lifted from or leave the keyboard. The apparatus actuating a pointing device includes a first tray and a second tray. The first tray has a surface, and a portion of the pointing device is located on the surface. The second tray is positioned above the first tray whereby motion of the second tray actuates the pointing device.

A media eject mechanism is disclosed which includes an L shaped eject member having an ejection spring portion and a lock spring portion and a media housing which engages the lock spring portion such that when the lock spring portion is disengaged with the media housing the ejection spring portion causes the media to be ejected. Such a mechanism advantageously provides media eject functionality using a small number of discrete parts.

Media eject mechanism

An interconnection system for electronic devices includes an internal master connecting terminal which is arranged to receive and mate with one of a plurality of available modular interfacing devices. The electronic device includes a system of internally arranged support and housing cavities which are graduated in size to house and support the modular interfacing devices and provide a uniform and contiguous output interface for connection to other electronic and peripheral devices. The modular interfacing devices are designed to accomodate the inclusion of various bus arrangements as well as additional components and circuitry, both active and passive.

Internal/external modular interface

A power supply system including a power supply providing power to an electronic device through current share circuitry, which includes a second connector for receiving power from an external power supply. The power supply is preferably a fault-tolerant power supply so that the electronic device receives continuous power in the event of partial failure. When the fault-tolerant power supply partially fails, the external power supply is connected to the second connector of the current share circuitry, which is switched to temporarily provide power to the electronic device from the external power supply. The power supply is then replaced while the external power supply provides power, so that power to the electronic device is continuously maintained. The electronic device thus experiences zero down-time. Even in low-end systems with a single power supply, down-time is substantially reduced. The external power supply is connected internally or through an external connector on the electronic device. In an alternative embodiment, each power supply or current share board includes a second output for serving as the external power supply to another electronic device having a partially failed power supply. The present invention is particularly advantageous for use with PC server systems, where it is desired to maintain continuous power with zero down-time.

Method and apparatus to maintain power using a fault-tolerant power

A portable computer desktop docking system includes a base structure, a port replicator, a shroud and a monitor stand. The base structure is horizontally supportable on a desktop and has an upwardly and rearwardly sloping top side with the port replicator being mounted on a rear section thereof. To dock the computer, it is manually slid rearwardly along the top side of the base structure until a rear side connector on the computer is forcibly mated with a front side connector on the port replicator. The port replicator has a rear side connectable to desktop peripheral device electrical cables. The shroud structure snaps onto a rear side of the base structure, conceals port replicator end portions of the cables, and groups the cables so that they exit the shroud structure in a horizontally central rear side portion thereof. The monitor stand has a monitor support platform from which four support legs depend. Bottom ends of the legs interlock with side edge projections on the base structure to position the platform above the port replicator and parallel with the desktop. A front pair of these side edge projections are positioned to permit the user's index fingers to rearwardly hook around them so that the user's thumbs can engage spaced apart front side portions of the computer and provide leverage for manually pushing the computer rearwardly along the top side of the support base structure to forcibly interconnect the port replicator and computer connector structures during docking.
