A method and apparatus is provided for compressing the lamination stack for a dynamoelectric machine. The apparatus includes a plurality of weight distribution plates and a plurality of pressing plates. The plurality of weight distribution plates are placed on one end of the lamination stack of the dynamoelectric machine. The plurality of pressing plates are placed on the plurality of weight distribution plates. A compressive force is applied to the lamination stack via the plurality of weight distribution plates and the plurality of pressing plates.

Method and apparatus for compression of lamination stack for a dynamoelectric machine

A method and apparatus are provided for compression of a lamination stack for a dynamoelectric machine. The apparatus includes a plurality of hanger brackets attached to a face frame, a plurality of force application tubes secured to the brackets, a plurality of force applying rams located beneath the force application tubes, a plurality of pressing plates located beneath the force applying rams, and a plurality of weight distribution plates located beneath the pressing plates. A compressive force is applied to the lamination stack by the force applying rams via the pressing plates and weight distribution plates.

A method for bending strands of material. The method includes providing a first pair of opposing dies each comprising a first surface corresponding to a first pair of predetermined bends to be formed in a first strand of material, positioning the first strand of material at least partially between the first pair of opposing dies, moving the first pair of opposing dies with respect to one another to impart the first pair of predetermined bends in the first strand of material, providing a second pair of opposing dies each comprising a second surface corresponding to a second pair of predetermined bends to be formed in a second strand of material, positioning the second strand of material at least partially between the second pair of opposing dies, and moving the second pair of opposing dies with respect to one another to impart the second pair of predetermined bends in the second strand of material.

Methods and assemblies for bending strands of material

Punchings for stator core laminations of a generator stator frame are disposed on a rotary table to form annular arrays of punching, with each layer staggered relative to adjacent layers. A mandrel is disposed at the center of the table and has fingers projecting radially for receiving the slots of the punchings to facilitate location of the punchings on the table and relative to one another. An annular cover is provided and disposed over the uppermost layer of punchings and clamped to the superposed sets of annular layers of punchings. The cover and punchings can then be removed from the table for disposition in the generator stator frame. The fingers on the mandrel are displaced vertically relative to the table as the height of the punchings on the table increases.

Apparatus for locating and stacking punchings for a generator core

A stator and a method of forming the stator comprises providing a stator frame having a frame plate, and connecting key bars to the frame plate at respective connection points, each of the key bars having a dovetail. The stator and method further includes providing a stator core comprising laminations each having a dovetail slot formed therein. Each dovetail is engaged into a respective dovetail slot so that at least some of the dovetails contact respective laminations at respective contact points. The locations of the contact points are controlled such that a force load transmitted by the contact points is evenly distributed among the contact points to thus minimize the maximum force transmitted. The location of the contact points is controlled such that a key bar stress at the connection points is also minimized.

Method of forming a stator

A stator comprises a stator frame, a plurality of key bars connected to the stator frame and a stator core. Each of the key bars has a dovetail. The stator core is formed by a pre-packaged stator core section including laminations each having a dovetail slot for engaging a respective dovetail. The stator core also includes a manually stacked stator core section including manually stacked laminations each having a dovetail slot for engaging respective dovetails. The cross-sectional area of the dovetail slots in the pre-packaged stator core section is larger than the cross-sectional area of the dovetail slots of the manually stacked stator core section.

A stator comprises a stator frame, a stator core and a spring. The stator core includes at least one lamination having a dovetail slot formed therein. A key bar is connected to the stator frame and includes a dovetail for engaging the dovetail slot. The spring is coupled between a portion of the lamination and the dovetail to provide an electrical ground path between the stator core and the stator frame. The spring includes a leaf spring that has first and second ends which contact the dovetail and a central portion. The central portion is connected to a base portion which contacts the lamination. Alternatively, the spring includes a base portion that contacts the lamination and prongs which project from the base portion and contact the dovetail.

An end turn arrangement for turns in a rotor where individual windings are stacked in tapered radial slots in the rotor, with successive turns having a smaller width in a radial inward direction, the end turns of the individual turns of each stack being vertically aligned along a common edge. The end turns are separated by blocking separators, each including a first anchor component having a first planar exterior surface and a second planar interior engagement surface; and a second slide component having a first non-planar exterior surface and a second planar interior engagement surface; the anchor and slide components having mating guide elements permitting the anchor and slide components to move relative to each other along a straight assembly path.

A seal for a generator stator end winding seals the gap between the annular air shield and a radially inner surface of the stator end winding. The seal includes a first flat piece layer formed of a flexible rubber material and having an inner diameter side and an outer diameter side. A plurality of first radial slits are formed across the outer diameter side. A second flat piece layer is disposed in a layered configuration with the first flat piece layer. The second flat piece layer is formed of the same flexible rubber material. A plurality of second radial slits are formed across the outer diameter side of the second flat piece layer and are offset from the first radial slits in the layered configuration. The seal is secured in a radial groove formed in an end of the air shield by a locking dowel and/or glue. With this arrangement, a reliable seal is configured that is inexpensive to manufacture and easy to install.

Mechanical constraints for tapered end turns of a generator rotor

A method and apparatus for the assembly and disassembly of dovetail shaped wedges into and from the coil slots of dynamoelectric rotors using a fixture attached to a rotor shaft coupling in a selectable radial position so as to be aligned with a rotor slot. The method and apparatus further uses a pulling tool attached to a wedge and also connected to a winch located on the fixture via a winch belt extending between the tool and fixture.

A U-shaped subslot liner is disposed in the bottom of a slot in the rotor of a dynamoelectric machine. A stack of conductors and insulating layers is supported by arms of the subslot liner durig manufacture. The subslot liner, together with the lower conductor, defines a coolant channel for conveying a gaseous coolant to the conductors. A slot armor lines the sides of the slots where it is retained against centrifugal acceleration by the subslot liner. In one embodiment, the slot armor passes completely under the subslot liner. In other embodiments, the slot armor is in two pieces, each affixed to the subslot liner.
