An electrical outlet has a conductive socket well for slidably receiving an electrical plug, the well having a transverse distal end having a center hole; an insulating connector housing adjacent the transverse distal end of the socket well having at least two electrical terminals for connection to an electrical supply; a first of the electrical terminals being coupled to a central fastener and a second of the electrical terminals terminating in a conductive element adjacent the transverse end of the socket well; a fuse member provided between the transverse end of the socket well and the conductive element, the fuse member in series electrical connection between the conductive element and the socket well; the fuse member providing compact integral over-current protection; an insulator disposed at the distal end of the socket well in the socket well, the central fastener holding the socket well, the insulator, the fuse member, insulating connector housing and first and second electrical terminals together as a unit; a proximal end of the central fastener providing a first electrical contact insulated from said socket well and the socket well providing a second electrical contact for electrically contacting with respective contacts of the electrical plug received in the socket well. The electrical outlet is also preferably provided with integral over-temperature protection, preferably comprising a spring-loaded leaf spring impinging on a thermoplastic disc that softens at a threshold temperature, allowing the leaf spring to penetrate through the disc and short-circuit the electrical supply.

An electrical socket for powering an electrical/electronic accessory device having an electrical plug that is received in the socket, comprising: an electrically conductive socket well for slidably receiving the electrical plug of the electrical/electronic device; an electrical connector portion disposed distally on the socket well and comprising an insulator fastened to the socket well at a distal end thereof and having at least two electrical terminals for connecting to a vehicle electrical power source; a plurality of first electrical contacts disposed at a distal end of said socket well and extending radially and proximally from the center of said well and being electrically connected to a first of said electrical terminals of said electrical connector portion; a second of said electrical terminals of said electrical connector portion being electrically connected to said socket well; and said plurality of first electrical contacts being adapted to electrically slidably engage with an inner periphery of a hollow cylindrical electrical contact of said electrical plug.

A control device for a vehicle or mechanism includes a portable displacement controller which permits a non-technical user to achieve effective control of the vehicle or mechanism, by moving the portable displacement controller intuitively with little learning effort. A first sensing device, attached to the displacement controller, detects the user's controlling motion. A second sensing device, attached to the object being controlled, detects motion thereof. An interface device receives signals from the sensing devices, processes those signals to determine relative motion of the controlling motion and the object's motion and outputs a control signal in accordance with the processed signals. The sensing devices each detect motion in six degrees of freedom; the sensing devices each include a three-axis accelerometer, a three-axis gyroscope, and a three-axis magnetometer. In specific embodiments, the accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers include micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) devices.

Intuitive multiple degrees of freedom portable control device

A handheld controller allows a human operator to control various aspects of a vehicle's operation. The operator's fingers are used to manipulate various devices (e.g., buttons, switches, joysticks, levers, triggers, trackballs and the like) disposed on the handheld controller to control aspects of the vehicle's operation associated with these devices. The handheld controller may provide control signals to the vehicle by a cable, or by a wireless connection. The handheld controller allows the operator to freely move about the vehicle's compartment or to move outside the compartment, while still being able to control the various aspects of vehicle operation. Furthermore, the handheld controller allows the operator to control the various aspects of vehicle operation from a location away from potentially hazardous surfaces within the compartment, which helps to prevent the operator from contacting these surfaces in the event that the vehicle is struck by an object (e.g., enemy artillery, another vehicle, etc.) or otherwise jarred.

A reconfigurable control for a combat vehicle such as a tank, personnel carrier, or aircraft, is presented. The control includes a grip, a base and a seal. The grip has a lower surface and a chamber. The grip includes a first electrical connector and a key located within the chamber. The base has an upper surface and a shaft. The base includes a second electrical connector and a keyway. In an installed position, the shaft is located within the chamber such that the grip's lower surface and the base's upper surface are substantially coplanar, the first connector electrically engages the second connector, the key mechanically engages the keyway, and the seal facilitates a compression fit between the grip and the base for sealing the chamber such that at least one of contaminants are prevented from entering the chamber and noise vibration rattle is eliminated.
