A capsule having a reactive chemical enclosed in the hollow interior thereof, and at least one coating in direct contact with and surrounding the reactive chemical, wherein the coating is a heat-cured thermosetting synthetic resin. The capsule can also include a second coating which is in direct contact with and surrounds the heat-cured thermosetting synthetic resin. The reactive chemical is not reactive with, soluble in or a solvent for the coating, or coatings, which surround the reactive chemical in the hollow interior of the capsule. The coating material is not soluble in water, but is permeable to water.

Encapsulated compositions

An aqueous fluid having a viscosity greater than the viscosity of water is contacted with a water soluble material for a time and at a temperature sufficient to reduce the viscosity of the aqueous fluid to a value which is less than about 10 percent of the initial viscosity of the aqueous fluid. The water soluble material is an alkali metal peroxide or a combination of an alkali metal peroxide and a transition metal-containing compound.

Reducing the viscosity of an aqueous fluid

This invention discloses, as an article of manufacture, a capsule having a hollow interior and an enclosing wall, referred to as a membrane. The membrane is not soluble in water, but is permeable to water or an aqueous solution. The membrane is comprised of a first material and can also include a second material. When the membrane is comprised of the first material and the second material, then it is referred to as a composite material wherein the first material forms sporting matrix having the second material fixed in the matrix. The first material is a urethane/vinyl hybrid polymer and is not soluble in, reactive with or a solvent for the second material. The second material is a particulate solid, different from the first material, and is not soluble in, reactive with or a solvent for the first material. The capsule of this invention is useful to maintain in the hollow interior thereof a solid, water-soluble first chemical composition which is not soluble in, reactive with or a solvent for the enclosing wall of the capsule. In operation, the exterior of the capsule, having the first composition maintained in the interior thereof, is placed in contact with a water-soluble second chemical composition which is not soluble in, reactive with or a solvent for the enclosing wall of the capsule, but which is reactive with the first chemical composition.

Encapsulated water soluble chemicals for use in controlled time release applications, methods of encapsulating the chemicals and methods of using the encapsulated chemicals are provided. The methods of encapsulating the chemicals are basically comprised of forming a first coating of a dry hydrophobic film forming material or a sparingly soluble material which provides a dry shield on the chemical and then forming a second coating of a porous cross-linked hydrophilic polymer on the first coating which prevents the substantial dissolution of the resulting encapsulated chemical for a selected period of time.

Encapsulated chemicals for use in controlled time release applications and methods

This invention discloses a polymer composition, a cement slurry containing said polymer composition and a method of using the cement slurry to cement a borehole penetrating a subsurface earth formation wherein the polymer composition is made by polymerizing a vinylamide morpholine derivative with a styrene sulfonic acid salt in the presence of a humate. The polymer composition operates to reduce fluid loss from the cement slurry to the subsurface formation.
